At the end of the day this falls on Penn state and their hockey program. If these prodigies are going to be going to these schools they have to be protected like a star qb is.

Colby who constantly talks about the world being soft and for people to have thicker skin on this show, advocating for violence that has proven to be one punch fatal all over the world, for checks notes words, is definitely a choice.
Hit on McAvoy should have been 5 and a game. Vilmanis has a skate off the ice when he's going in for the hit and is coming off the ice before the follow through. For the league to not levy supplemental discipline for this after handing Rust 3 games for what I would consider a less serious hit than this is absolute bullshit.

Edit: He turned 18 on December 20th. Also a person on bail can generally not leave the country so finishing the season in Medicine Hat is probably unlikely.
