William Nylander had a huge night with a goal and two assists and Joseph Woll stood on his head late, finishing with 28 saves as the Toronto Maple Leafs held on to defeat the Calgary Flames 4-2.

Zayne's play deserved a star
He looked exceptional on his plays against the walls & in puck battles. I also noticed multiple plays where he was keeping his head up, he knew where he was out there. Pre injury, he looked like the guy running around and admiring a pass, and every play it looked like he was gonna get smoked. Tbh that challenged some of my critisms of him, because I was ready to be "oh no" everytime he hit the ice.
All those separatists clapping for Toronto.

The Leafs problem is that, after tonight's game, they still have to leapfrog at least 4 of the 5 teams above them in the wild card standings while also staying ahead of the three teams right behind them OR catch and pass the third place team in their division.
Compounding that problem is that ALL of the teams that they must surpass are constantly playing versus each other so that obviously means that for each one that loses, the other won wins to stay ahead of Toronto.
For instance, tonight Toronto could have moved ahead of Florida, Washington and Ottawa, but only the Panthers lost….to Buffalo whom the Leafs also need to surpass……so the Leafs only leapfrogged Florida and the idle Flyers.
Flames must be bad if they lose against the leafs.
If Nylander is not present, the Leafs are dead, when he is present and going they have a chance. 🧡💛🧡
