Corrado discusses Leafs’ trade strategy five weeks from deadline
With Toronto now 10 points back of a wild card spot, they should clearly be sellers moving forward. But how deep should the sell off go? Frankie Corrado joins Domino’s That’s Hockey to weigh in.
Frank Leafs only have three picks in 2026 draft. Team must get kids for AHL. IN AHL they only have one NHL capable player to play on 4 line maybe two. Team is very old GM must mopve three older guys for picks and younger players. They are done this year. Unless GM makes mioracle trade.
I agree with Frankie Corrado but would add OEL and 2 of 3 goalies in Woll, Hildeby or Stolarz as being on the team going forward. Moving OEL for example simply creates a hole in the D corps that cannot be filled for less than his cap hit. What is vitally important in the retooling effort is to admit from the outset that this is a poorly constructed team. Having said this, I fear the Treliving is not the man for the job.
The blame should be squarely aimed at the big 4 and the management that agreed to their terms when the contracts were signed. So you want to keep the main problem around?
Trade OEL for a 1st, Carlo for a 1st, McMann for a 1st, Laughton and and two 5ths for a 1st, Robertson and a 2nd for a 1st, and Maccelli for a 5th. That's five 1st to build around going forward, and all those 1st should be for next year's draft, not this year's, that way you have more flexibility to make trades in the offseason for players you didn't get in FA. And if you really liked a player in this year's draft, you could always offer one of those 1st for that pick you like right now. That's the plan they should take going forward. Trouble is that it the problems stem deeper than that, Domi and Reilly for example, but they have NTC, that complicate things and may only need to be looked at over the summer. But as they are constructed right now, their not even a playoff team, let alone a Stanley Cup playoff team.
Knies is untouchable? He is non-existent 95% of every game, and plays his role (power forward) even less often. I am not saying you should rush to get rid of him for nothing, but he hasn't really proven he was worth that new contract yet.. His comments given the context are even worse. He seems like a lazy coaster to me, but I guess he learnt from the best.. A lot of these discussions seem to start with who to get rid of, rather than what (or more specifically who) to actually get. Its the same problem we had last minor rebuild, our only direction was 'size' for berube and that was a massive failure. We still have no plan, no goals, no direction as a team – that should be addressed before anything, and likely with the replacement of Berube. It's pretty clear A) the Leafs will never be the Panthers B) Berube couldn't even coach the Panthers to success, he is overrated, underskilled and increasingly showing he is not that bright. The injury is a funny example of that.. If he wasn't smart enough to avoid doing that to himself, can't imagine his odds are much better afterwards.. A brain can only take so much damage over a lifetime..

No. Reilly, Matthews, Nylander. In that order. These three losers are never winning anything in Toronto.
Sell!
Start by getting rid of Morgan Reilly. They have to figure out a way to get rid of his nmc
Matthews is the Leaf's only worty trade card, considering he's also the Leaf's cancer on that team
WRONG. Matthews should be first to go. He's not a leader.
It is now time to,put the pressure on Keith pelly.yes Keith pelly.
Buddy the whole team front to back top to bottom needs to go rebuild it hasn't worked never will
WRONG, Frank. Matthews probably wears panties and William Bystander doesn't play without the puck. GET THOSE BUMS OUT.
