The Sharks trading for Panarin would be an EPIC mistake. The timelines are not compatible. Who says Panarin is going to decline gradually? He might but, he also might hit a wall. Toffoli has looked noticeably worse than last year. A sudden decline is a very real possibility. As for the gap Celebrini has over his teammates, remember Smith was injured for 4+ weeks. He was hovering around a point per game at the injury. He’s now back and playing great. Celebrini has support with more coming. The Sharks need D help. Panarin has had a great career and is having a great season. He is also in is mid 30s. Let another team take the risk.
I highly doubt Celebrini at 19 is "peak Celebrini" by any stretch of the imagination with his work ethic. The only thing I think the Sharks are doing is just testing the waters. Can you get a dude of this caliber who wants out and might be willing to go to SJ with minimal assets giving up. If so, go for it. But it doesnt seem likely that they will just rush out many prospects that will shorten their future which how many picks they are seeming like they have hit on.
