The NJ Devils return to The Rock, looking to get back in the win column after closing out the road trip with a disappointing loss to the Seattle Kraken.
They finished 3-1 on the road trip, but there was a real opportunity squandered.
The playoff race is super tight, and the Devils are currently 5 points behind the NY Islanders for the 3rd spot in the Metro.
Can the boys score some goals for Johnny Mac tonight?!?

Yay, finally traded Palat. Congrats to him, he’ll be playing in the playoffs now! Unlike our pathetic team of soft losers. NO hope for this season now. Disgrace in front of legends in the building. Witness greatness on ice before the game. Fitz must go. All forwards minus Grits and Lenny can go. Hope Glass is ok. Maybe keep Glass & Brown too.
How does this group of defenders let up all those goals off the rush? How?

Oh god I’m sure you listened to Keefes postgame talking how Palat was a leader and example of hard work. We are in big trouble as a team if our sub average play has been hinged on Palat.
Can’t even be upset at this point. We know , we can see and hear they are not it. Time to start shipping everyone else and retool or rebuild whatever you want to call it. Absolutely disgraceful that they can’t find the energy after a tribute ceremony ( guess you can’t find what you don’t have).

Just finished watching game on replay excruciating game. This is one where we needed to be sharp and we we weren't its hard after road trip and Winnipeg has our number but odd man rushes tons of them killed us. Special teams were quite good and we almost tied this one good effort to not quit but just wasn't good enough tough loss really stings. This team really takes the life out of you.
Music city kitties up next in nj a club we do play well against need to get one back and win at home this is a game where we need to bounce back for sure . 2 straight ls killing us. But cant let it snowball Nashville and Ottawa 2 clubs we play well against need to step up now
But Devils tease only to sink us back to reality with yet another heartbreak. Hate this team yet I cant stop watching this team. Love the devils but we know its just not good enough unfortunately. Lgd
Playoffs not even in our vocabulary. I just want to see improved effort and ws. But man it sucks I hate losing bur Winnipeg has our number and we needed a mature effort tonight and didn't get that but nice late effort but loss it was indeed

Trade is 100% a future move, not a win now move. Frees up cap and gives us “upside” as Fitz would say on Tysplakov. Ace, I’m surprised you’re not a little more optimistic on Tysp. I actually really liked him last year and wanted him as a bottom 4. He can score and plays nasty.

I guess we were pinching too much and got caught. If we gave up just one less weak goal we would have had a point
Palat trade makes a division rival we’re chasing better and makes our team worse. (And you know Pally is scoring against us next Thursday in that must win game before the break.) It only clears up 3+ mil in cap, which won’t cover a top 6 winger.
It also contributed to costing us a vital game tonight, based on how Fitz handled the trade. The players were shocked by the news of this, having to say their goodbyes to a heart and soul teammate (and assistant captain) moments before they had to take to the ice. Even Sheldon remarked, “we’re gonna miss Pally.”
Honestly us “making” the playoffs last year may have delayed what obviously needed to happen.
Last year and this years epic meltdowns have shown us what this team really is.
2 core pieces need to be moved to shake up the culture. I don’t wanna see Bratt moved even with as little as he’s scored this year.
Need to find a way out of the Marky deal too, hopefully under the guidance of a new GM.
Fitzy is king of making moves 2 months too late.

2 steps forward, 1 step back… What an awful performance. Next step should be getting rid of Dougie but I don't see a team who would willingly want him and the contract.
I agree with you and hope that I'm wrong but I don't think the Palat trade is an indicator of things to come. I think it's the move he couldn't make for the last 7 months to get cap compliant when everyone is healthy. I'm pretty sure we were almost exactly $3.75M over the cap, so just like the extra pick to retain money on Dumolin last year, it's a move to save money and not exceed the cap.
It feels like just the abstract knowledge that we have $3.7 million in cap space now is as close as some in the modern devils fan base will get to feeling like we won the Stanley Cup. They forget that that cap space is meaningless if not put to use, and honestly, what are we gonna do with only $3.7 million in cap space? (If anything the Isles weaponized their own cap space to burnish their roster for a playoff run that we can only dream about.)

Totally agree Ace, season is over and Palat was the first of more selling to come. Until Fitz is gone I expect absolutely nothing to change, this once proud franchise is garbage. This core simply doesn't work at the level needed to be competitive. At least we can gather to share in our misery. On the positive side, at least we get to watch Olympic hockey soon!!
Enjoyed the ceremony for John MacLean. Oh boy put a pitchfork in it, season is essentially done. Would wish Palat luck in the future if Fitz did not dump him on a division rival. Watch the Islanders go on a long run and Palat be clutch like he was for the Lightning. Painful season.
Where to begin? There's a few out there that have been around as long as I have since 83 watching this team. We all know what we saw. The great, the bad and the ugly. Those bad teams and ugly teams however gave you a full 60 minutes and they did not quit despite the fact lopsided scores they should have but didn't! When a team like this one (3 years) has this much talent it is easy to zero in on one guy. The Timo haters, the Bratt haters/trade him etc. They are ALL under achieving. It was great to see some legends, some great role players and seeing a spry looking Jacque and Lou. Obviously Johnny Mac. From the current player perspective deep down this stuff probably means nothing to them. A lot them weren't even born or were just little tikes playing Mario Cart. Johnny Mac made a very pointed comment/statement about the current team..one opportunity! Brendan Shanahan showed up for Johnny Mac taking him under his wing at 18 years of age. He also said something that really resonated and for the youngsters on here and those that really fail at knowing hockey is both sides of the ice Shanny said he was out there to protect his goal scorers and distributors. He could hit the net but there was a reason he had all those PIMs. In an indirect way he was saying the identity of this team is soft. I've never seen anything like this in my now 43rd year watching this team. I've backed off jumping in on your last few lives Ace because while passionate some of the comments or trade suggestions or zeroing in on one player are just lacking hockey knowledge and not watching what a player(s) do on both ends of the ice.
Personally, nobody on this team should be untouchable at this point and that includes the Hughes brothers! I'm sick and tired of hearing the bullshit he's a generational player. So what? There's tons of them out there and while this mess falls on Fitz and without question Keefe who the team has all but tuned out if anyone denies the fact that Jack and Luke have been major distractions this year they're lying to themselves.
What is sad is that we know that the chances of a full blown organizational blow up are as likely as the Devils making the playoffs this year.
If by some miracle the money and marketing greedy owners woke up and did something everyone has got to go. Yes, that includes Marty as well as he would be part of collateral damage. I think you had a guy attending the ring of honor ceremony who should at least be interviewed and that is Shanny. My first pick which would not be too popular would be Brian Burke and if he's willing bring in Beezer as a scout/consultant. Finally when this season is over I truly believe we are going to get lip service from Fitz that so and so was playing hurt all year. But I also think we are going to hear that the locker room has been toxic and while players say all is good it clearly isn't. I believe there is some genuine dislike between players. Clean it out. I will take three good players over the generational player bullshit term any day of the week. I truly admire what you do but I go by let cooler heads prevail because I know I'd get into it with some of the comments you receive from fans on your live.

This was SUPPOSED TO BE THE YEAR. Like it’s ridiculous it was supposed to be THE year, ok last season gentleman’s sweep bummer so next season we load up full health- 8 gamer. It’s sucks to at we’re seeing another year lost partially to goaltending, originally it was the scoring which has been somewhat remedied, but the goaltending has been what’s losing us games recently. Allen and Marky are not the answer, mark(y) my words. Dadonov in my eyes is just a Palat 2.0 essentially just is a lot cheaper so I wonder if this was something Fitz had been planning for a while u can see a lot of like his line of thinking and planning there. I’m happy palats contract is gone but it really is a massive nothing move for me. But otherwise I was at the game last night, we bought one of those five game ticket packs a bit ago and got invited out to a free game and got restaurant seats!!! Man Ace was so spot on. I can’t go back. It was just incredible I was just gorging on food all night, the dessert especially. Not having to brave the Gen pop bathrooms was sweet too. I also bumped into and took a picture with Rachel who was super sweet so that was cool for me. Anyways, Timo not on pp1 is crazy to me too like whenever he gets pp time he scores. I wonder if Fitz has an accountability thing, if u look at buffalo, Tage T was talking about how when their new gm came in he was like step it up, if you play bad and lazy ur getting shipped, nobodies safe. And Adam’s was kind of known to just sign any players who actually wanted to be in Buffalo, rather than who yk wanted to win. It’s just the loser mentality and I genuinely think that’sone of the big Fitz issue’s. Look Chicago cut ruined the season, beginning of the end. Bratt hasn’t been the same since getting blown up by Ovi, cause he was playing great before that. Nico looks like and has been producing like he’s been playing through injury. And Timo has been… Timo all season. Jack did look really really good tonight imo and the hate comments rn are so dumb, and I had a good view he was super noticeable all night and his shot actually looked good or better, I honestly think that shot on the Bratt tip in would’ve gone in if he hadn’t. #willgodownwiththisship 🥲
Honestly the trade Luke comments make sense or the people who want to get rid of him, cause he sucks. But the people who want to get rid of Jack make no sense to me.. this non 100% Jack has literally been the best player on this team outside of maybe Cody glass. Dude literally carries the team so much, if we lost him our powerplay would go back to ass cause Bratt is an awful play driver, and also where would the offense replacing him come from?? Certainly not internally. Evidence: he’s the only one core player not dramatically underperforming this season, he’s way too high on the team point leader list for someone who missed like 20 games. I mean I’m not a complete untradable person as long as it’s an upgraded return.
