As the Buffalo Sabres RISE, the Toronto Maple Leafs FALL
For the first time in a very long time, the Buffalo Sabres are a better hockey team than the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres have been getting great goaltending, scoring from their blueline, and a consistent effort from all four lines. Their results have followed suit. Meanwhile up in Toronto, the Leafs are giving up more goals than anyone, can’t score on the powerplay, and are sorely missing Mitch Marner. What is wrong with Auston Matthews, who is under a point per game for the first time since his rookie season. Numbers back up that the Sabres are the superior team in almost all aspects. Plus, the Leafs will be without William Nylander and Chris Tanev, good news for the Sabres chances on Tuesday night.
Plus, what both lineups look like tonight. And could the Sabres put Josh Norris on long term injured reserve in order to acquire another great player at the trade deadline? If they’re ever going to do it, the Olympic break would be the time, as it’s the last year NHL team’s can use this trick to create cap space.

You youngsters have no idea why there has been a rivalry on the ice from day one. And no kiddos it's not (just) because the Canadians come across the border and annoy you. In fact I've never had a problem with fans from Canada they've always been respectful. In the beginning the Sabres hired George "Punch" Imlach who had a rich history with the Maple Leafs. Imlach won 4 Stanley Cups with Toronto. In fact when Punch was fired from the Leafs the then majority owner Stafford Smythe get in a heated argument with Punch and Smythe told Punch he'd never coach in the NHL again. Punch acquired many former Leafs players including Floyd Smith, Dick Duff, Don Marshall and Reg Fleming along with Tim Horton later in 1972. Not to mention that Toronto (along with Montreal) blocked Buffalo's expansion into the NHL in 1967. So all of that and more is why to this day there is a rivalry between Buffalo and Toronto.
Like the LTIR comments. Read where Whiecloud could be available.
Pretty sure the leafs biggest rivalry is with the habs, not Ottawa lol
I’m 99.9% sure the new LTIR rules are in effect this season, so that plan won’t work. In order to get the cap space the player cannot play in the playoffs.
Imagine signing an 8 year $7.95 million dollar/year deal and spend most of that time on Physical Therapy? What a deal!
Auston Matthews doesn't want to be in Toronto. He's sick of it. And the juxtaposition of him playing for THEM🤮 while being Team USA. I feel bad for the guy.
BEAT THE LEAFS! Go Buffalo!
lafaniere from rangers……
Take the over 6.5 goals
And there has always been a rilverly between these 2 teams since this team 1970. Your way off bud
Right Joe. For decades the Sabres were good and the Leafs were horrible. Then vice versa. But during all those times there were MANY upsets with the horrible team often beating the good team. The records / standings always seem meaningless when these two teams play. That and the proximity make it a great rivalry.
Beat the leafs by 3 AND had one of our goals taken back due to offsides. That wasn't just a win, that was a statement. Teams better stop pulling their goalies on us. We will find a way to put it in the net from anywhere on the ice.
How bout that bet of the night Joe? Lol 😅
