The Dadonov Debacle

During the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline, the Vegas Golden Knights traded forward Evegnii Dadonov and a 2022 conditional 2nd round draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman John Moore and the remainder of Ryan Kesler’s contract. Though this seemed to be another route deal on the surface, the following days would prove that it was anything but, as it quickly became the most notable deal of the entire deadline for all the wrong reasons!

So what happened to this trade? Why didn’t it go through, and why was it so contentious? Well let’s take a look at both the deal itself and the primary player involved and try to figure it out!

So in today’s video, join me as we explore the Evgenii Dadonov Debacle!

  1. As much as this was debacle the fault is 3 fold. Vegas should know all there players no-movement and ntc status. Ottawa should have made sure all papers were given. LASTLY the NHL trade department which APPROVES such moves should have ALL nhl player contracts in a database to be reviewed. They should not be free of any fault in this I can't belive the nhl trade department has no records of such things.

  2. As a Vegas fan i think most of use are tired of our management treating players like shit, i think we would've rather waited for the cup a few years than to have treated fleury and dadanov like we did.

  3. Maybe you could do a video on the disaster looming in the horizon for Vegas, they basicly have no future since it has been all in every season.

  4. UrinatingTree was right on the money when he said Vegas was on the fast track to being one of the most unlikable organizations in the league. If I were a player working a deal that involved a M-NTC, you can bet the Golden Knights would be on my list.

  5. Honestly as a VGK fan I want them to make the plays off and play against the wild and get eliminated by them hopefully management will have a wake up call and stop treating players like toys

  6. What does it mean “Ryan Kessler contract “ does he still play for Anaheim but is owned by Vegas?

  7. The issue is the league does not have the no trade list is something the player gives to the team every July players don't want loads of people knowing it becuase think if it leaked and it had like rangers Panthers a bunch of good teams for whatever the reason was that's going be alot of bad will on the player ….so the league always figured well if the teams doing a trade there's no issue or it was waived …now I bet that change I think so the league don't look stupid again

  8. Yah the bad part is cap friendly had his no trade listed on there site 🤣 not the list it self but that the clause was there so there is no excuse for Vegas not to know

  9. I wouldn't put it past vegas "rolling the dice" and just trading him knowing the clause is there in hopes hed get so mad he wouldn't want to go back or whatever and the trade just goes thru

  10. Vegas can technically still trade Dadonov after the deadline (of course, not to any team on his No-Trade list) and get the cap space they need. It's rarely done, and if it was done, Dadonov would be ineligible to play for his new team until next season (even if that team is a playoff team this season.) Dadonov has been lights out the last few games, so maybe they won't.

Then again, when has Vegas shown themselves unwilling to absolutely railroad a guy in a heartbeat when they think it's in their interests? I bet if they remain close, or barely holding a playoff spot, when Reilly and/or Stone are ready to come back they trade Dadonov to get the cap space to clear them. They'd have to pay through the nose to do it because they other team would have all the leverage, but that's what you get when you play the game of Cap Shenanigans every season.
