the fact is. the leafs do not have their 1st round picks for this and next draft. they will not sell. we have to live with and through this for a couple more years until mathews contract is up and we start the rebuild

I am surprised none of you are talking about a defense coach change? There is a correlation here and before considering trading Rielly OEL McCabe or any of them, Lalonde should be replaced immediately. The entire D-core look lost at times “deer in the headlights“ so to speak. We’ve seen a glimpse of Rielly a few times do what he does best move the puck from one end to the other but that stopped again. These guys didn’t forget how to play but it seems they not being properly coached.
As for TDL any player that is a UFA and has refused or holding out on an extension should be dealt regardless of whether they make the playoffs or not.
As for Treliving? That depends on Pelkey and totally agree if he won’t have a job if the team doesn’t make the playoffs then he should probably be let go now because it doesn’t look good.
Maybe letting Lalonde go may bring the positive effect as when Savard was let go.
How many years left on Matthew's contract? You know hes walking at the end right, trade him before the last year as he might waive to go to another good team, otherwise hes walking for nothing and youre rebuild is starting shorthanded.

This team will never do ANYTHING so long as Matthews and Nylander are their best players. Imagine the two softest players in the nhl trying to hype the boys up for a big game 😂😂😂😂
Your solution is trade our spare parts. You're not going to get anything meaningful back. You need to move matthews or nylander if you want to actually shake up this team. Commit to a full rebuild or stay stagnant. The moves you're talking about aren't going to do anything.
The Wings traded away Ray Sheppard (50 goal scorer).
They traded Paul Coffey (HOF) and Keith Primeau (in his prime).
To get the right players to win cups. Trade some players now!

I wouldn't trade anyone unless they are a ufa, I would not trade OEL that is insane and why wasn't lalonde fired with savvy? why is he still here?
Steve….your logic is getting tiresome. For years you've ranted that this team didnt have the size and heaviness to really compete, now you're advocating they retool to become the version they were back in 2021….teams whether, big or fast, play to their strengths in order to win, not follow which way the wind blows. If any serious retool or rebuild should happen it would need to be in Matthews last contract year. The singular problem as we all know with this team over the years has been attitudinal. They should stick with what they've got for now and make moves in the off season.
I am ok with keeping Reilly IF he plays left wing. He is one of the few guys on the team that can carry the puck

Yeah here is what is going to happen. The gm is getting the boot as well as the coach in the offseason.

He had a decent success as Calgary gm but ended with a Frankenstein build.

Matthew's and Nylandar are not going to lead this team to a deep playoff run or cup. The don't have the fortitude to do it. You can acquire a lot of draft picks, prospects, and young nhl talent. Pull the plug and start over.
