Are Avalanche Trade Rumors For Nazem Kadri REAL & Would it be Worth it!?

Are the Colorado Avalanche actually in the mix for a Nazem Kadri reunion, or is this just NHL trade rumor noise sparked by Elliotte Friedman noting Kadri’s interest in landing with a true contender like Colorado or Dallas? We break down what Kadri would really look like in Denver as a potential 3C behind Brock Nelson, plus the “vibes vs. value” debate after his top-line usage in Calgary. Then we get into the hard part: Kadri’s $7M cap hit for multiple years, what salary retention would cost, and whether Colorado would have to move a Ross Colton or Sam Girard (plus premium picks) to make it work. If you’re tracking the Avalanche trade deadline plans, this episode lays out the clearest pros, cons, and realistic price tag for bringing Naz back.

  1. Kadri retained for a 1st and Nuke. Then you go get Burky as a 3W sniper, Boon Jenner as a 3C, and you're set for the rest of this Cup window

  2. With Jonathan Toews, its not just the aging cliff he fell off of. He did the weird indian detox medicine thing, and reading the interviews with him talking about his health, idk he sounded kind of like that weird hippie friend you haven't seen in a really long time that did too many drugs, but (i think) without the drugs. That's the hardest pass of the names you threw out there. With Kadri, I really dont see how the cap fits without spending a ton and just making another hole somewhere else that they'd have a hard time filling. I wish it would work, I'd love it. I just don't think it does.

  3. I don't understand the argument that "we're already there" on the aging curve. All those other guys have contracts that take them into their mid 30's. That's not that risky. It's when you have multiple guys under contract well into their late 30's, at the price tag of both Nelson And Kadri, that you run the risk of rapid decline, that you can't just easily get someone to take off of your hands. That would put an abrupt end to the contender window. I don't think it's worth the risk.

This team is already good enough. It's not a video game where we can try to put together the perfect roster. As much as I'd love to see Kadri back here while he has something left in the tank, I think Calgary would need to retain more money than they are likely willing to, to make this make sense. And the Avs better not ship off Nabokov.

  4. This has been talked about for weeks, why finally talk about when the other podcasts start talking about it

  5. If they do go for Kadri, that probably means LOC ain't coming back this season. I would be stoked to get Kadri back. He was a huge part of that cup run.

  6. I love Kadri and would love to see him back in an Avalanche uniform. But you can’t upend what’s working. I heard Sam G’s name dropped here. Hell no! For $5M Girard outperforms his salary nightly. You lose more than you gain by this. Part of the reason the Avs are playing so well is because they’re playing excellent defence on the whole. Ross Colton and Sammy G might be expendable for the right trade with some long term benefit (i.e. Panarin) but idk about 3C for $5M (min) AAV and losing what’s already working.

  7. the most important thing for the Avs is resigning or trading Malinski… he is top priority for the Avs

  8. Kadri gonna be 3C? Nelson is clearly the 2C but Kadri replacing Colton would be huge haha

  9. Not worth losing young players for a romanticized fantasy version of Kadri. He won't be as good as we remember, and think about what we'd really need to give up to get him. It would be like a worse Byram for Middlestadt situation. Just don't do it.

  10. Colorado/Edmonton/Florida/Dallas should target Toews package maybe with a depth d like Schenn/Miller/Heinola or Lambert.

It be alot cheaper than Kadri,Schenn,Kyrou,Thomas,Coleman ect
