  1. I don't like 5×5 for a 30 year old. I like more like 4×3 years. Sharks have to extend him otherwise the trade doesn't make sense though… Still need to extend Mack, Smith and Asky in the offseason too.

  2. I view this trade as Mike Grier offering a carrot to Celebrini and Smith ahead of their contract talks this summer. He needs to send a message that the Sharks are committed to winning. But outside of that, I dont view this a great trade on paper. The Sharks' underlying fundamentals are much worse than their record would suggest. IMO they still are not ready for prime time. Almost their entire blueline will be free agents after this season and its not clear whether their defense will continue to improve after this year. Their rebuild has been too forward-heavy. Dickinson might be a good player but he doesn't look elite.

  3. As someone entirely unfamiliar with Sherwood and the skills and intangibles he brings [before watching this video and other today], this trade is terrible at face-value for one glaring reason: the Sharks do not need forward help YET. Had you told any of us at the beginning of the season that we'd be in a Playoff spot in January, we'd probably laugh in your face. Let's be grateful that's where we are, but not kid ourselves that we can hang with the best of the best in a 7 game series. This season was all about gaining valuable experience and giving the Kids [Mack, Will, Misa, Dickinson, etc.] some leash, letting them get comfortable and find their games, and secure another top-10 pick to help accelerate the rebuild even further. Not to mention that the chemistry the lines have right now is BANANAS. I'm not putting Sherwood on Mack's line and kicking Will or Graf off. I'm not breaking up Ekky and Wennberg, and Toff plays well with them. Misa and Chernyshov are destined to play together and Regenda is playing well enough to warrant being on this 3rd line with them if not up at 1 on Mack's wing instead of Graf. So that means we just traded 2 2nd's for a 4th winger. Now, I'm not stupid, Sherwood is NOT going to play on the 4th line. But then where are you going to put him and what line are you gonna break up? That's not even considering that Kurashev is coming back at some point and also needs to find a home not on a 4th line… You see the problem here? Sherwood isn't a HUGE upgrade on any single player in our top 9. What the Sharks REALLY lack is solid D. No offense to these guys that play their heart out each night, but Liljegren, Klingberg and Ferraro are NOT top 4 defensemen on almost any Contending teams. They are bottom pair guys playing top line minutes. If we could've traded those 2 2nd's for a solid D-Man I would've been much happier. We would've improved an actual area of need and not screwed with the budding chemistry in our forward group. All this doesn't even take into account Bystedt, Musty and McKinney waiting in the wings to debut over the next season or two. I just don't see how Sherwood addresses any glaring needs we couldn't fix internally. It's NOT a BAD trade, it's just an unproductive one.

  4. As a Sharks fan, I don't mind this, but the biggest need is blue line. He's going to want a 5 year extension, and with the way he plays, his body will break down. 2-3 years is the most he should get, imo. Grier has done an excellent job in the rebuild, except for the blue line. Now is the time to make up for that short coming.

  5. Make the playoffs? Okay
Not gonna compete for the cup this year… keep the picks 2026 is a good draft…
Couldn’t that have packaged Klingberg in the deal and all his giveaways

  6. I agree with those who are concerned about a 5-year contract for a 30-year old who plays a very physical game, but in order to go shorter, you're going to have to bump the salary a bit. So maybe $6M or $6.5M for 3 years?

  7. Dudes made for the playoffs. Late second rounders are typically a long shot to have an impact.
A bit of hyperbole tho by these guys!

  8. how is this a hugh trade? sherwood is a 3rd liner traded for 2 2nd round picks and an AHLer.

  9. Panarin bread snack (for the rest of the year as a "trial period") in teal? Sherwood -> NYR, you guys pointed this out Sherwood was coveted by most teams in the NHL and SJS got him!! Could this be another Mikko Rantanen type of swap? Grab the guy everyone wants, then find a suitor at the deadline… if Panarin is in teal and Sherwood is bangin with JT Miller in NYR this is some slick asset management by Grier/Holy & staff! Sherwood is a great add, regardless…

  10. Not crazy about the bay area politically, but hockey-wise, Celebrini and Sherwood are going to be a very interesting match up

  11. Waste of 2, 2nd rd picks. would have been far better if we kept our own 2nd rd pick this year. Sharks have a ton of bottom 6 forwards coming up, some with a lot of sandpaper. What we need is D. We have 1 D-man playing now that will be part of the future. Mukah is good when in the lineup but he'll never be able to stay healthy. Waste aof 2, 2nd rd picks…Hopefully Wang and Wally wil be part of the future but still need at least 2 more top-4 D, including a #1 D-man who plays on the right side. If Q. Hughes doesn't sign an extension with the Wild, likely going to NJ, and hoefully if we traded someone like Ecklund, we could Nemec, or if Ott would deal for Yakemchuk, Ravensbegeren + a 1st…
