Ohio State AD Ross Bjork: OSU spending all it can? Should college football have no spending limit?
Ohio State director of athletics Ross Bjork joins Doug Lesmerises and Bill Landis on The Bill and Doug Show to talk about everything in the world of NIL and football roster building on the last day that players can enter the transfer portal.
Topics covered include:
* If reality has outpaced the $20.5 million revenue share limit, what should that cap he raised to?
* What’s the ballpark figure for a roster now, and is Ohio State spending everything it possibly can?
* If Ohio State did have a mega donor, how would that person spend money on the Buckeyes?
* How should fans think about donating and what do outside collectives do now?
* Does Ohio State need a contract expert?
* How did the Demond Williams situation affect things and what protections does Ohio State put in its contracts?

Why does Ross not let the collectives (Foundation) do their work?
Im one of those 750k who bought a ticket in last yr. Pretty cool theyre using the data
Ross: First things first — free up more money for Football & Basketball Facilities Upgrades & NIL by reducing the unsustainable & outdated 36 Varsity Sports!! Certainly, a Study could be done to modify that inflated # Of Varsity Sports down to a more reasonable 25 Varsity Sports…
Pantoni doing contract negotiations is interesting
There needs to be caps or this sport is done!!
Does anyone know memorabilia companies that work with the university to help raise money for NIL? Or companies that you buy OSU paraphernalia from whose revenue goes to support the football program?
That was epic! 👏🏻👏🏻
What about Texas Tech who has the billionaire donor, yet hasn't agreed to the follow the rules of the house settlement? How can OSU & Texas Tech (for example) play on the same playing field when they're not playing on the same playing field?
Trying to follow rules no one enforces. Great job
Some serious shady people acting as agents. 10k players in the portal as I type. Insanity.
Something has to give here. And soon. It's destroying the game. The teams that are refusing to sign aren't going to change their minds. Why would they? They have the billionaire owners. It's truly disgusting.
CFB is the last sport I love and follow. Because it was everything the NFL wasn't. They have completely erased that.
Hells yeah!! Great get!!
The reality is that 12 million people in Ohio can't afford to donate to a football team. Ohio needs to address its crystal-meth problem. I think that money would be better spent fixing that problem.
Busy at the moment so I'll have to watch the video later but am just wondering if this is about a spending limit on NIL or a spending limit on college football coaches salary. And a limit on how much coaches are paid off if they're fired.
I think the writing is on the wall for the academic mission
Until you limit transfers, nothing else matters. Transfer 1 time, after that sit out a year for instance. Perhaps allow 5 years and be done with it, no exceptins. 5th year being a red shirt, injury, whatever, but that's it. No 4 years of JUCO and 4 years higher level BS. Money is only a 5th of issue IMO. You guys did a FANTASTIC Q&A…
Thank you Doug and Bill
Who pays the taxes on this money?
Restrict the number of times akid can transfer. That will solve the majority of problems. You're allowed 1 transfer. If you transfer a 2nd time, you sit out a year.
talk about football not money laundering
“Those fans can pay $50, $100, $1k, $1mi…” my brother in Christ I pay thousands in tickets and merchandise while giving immense amount of time and love to the university. This is such a joke. These universities employ hundreds of useless admin types whose roles could be slashed immediately with noticeable improvements in operations if anything and money allocated elsewhere. Followed this sport, specifically OSU, everyday since I was 12 and this fiasco with transfers, pay for play, and calendar to make me somewhat hate the only sport I’ve cared about for years. Fans are the most important and none of these bozos realize that.
