Are the Montreal Canadiens close to make a trade? With the NHL trade market heating up, is it finally time for Kent Hughes and the Habs to get aggressive? We break down how close Montreal really is to pulling the trigger, what opportunities exist to strike right now, and whether any prospects are truly untouchable if a star player becomes available. If the Habs want a game-changing name, what’s the real cost — and are they ready to pay it?

  1. How about we learn how to keep the puck out of our net and how to get out of our zone without headaches before we think of making a trade. Our current system is great for pond hockey but horrible for nhl playoff hockey

  2. This is chatgpt's prognosis for the HABS winning the cup:

    ✅ 2026 Cup: Extremely unlikely
⚠ 2027 Cup: Possible, requires breakout moves/championship performance
📈 2028–2032 Cup Window: Most realistic based on current rebuild trajectory
🏆 Overall Prediction: Highest realistic probability of a Canadiens Cup in the 2028–2032 timeframe, assuming continued growth and strategic additions.

  3. Marc Bergevin bought the car. Hughes and Gorton were given the keys . Gorton and Hughes fell arse backwards into a couple of top 5 picks and lucked out on that overated head faker #48 in the 2nd. They should not be trusted to make the necessary moves to get them over the hump. Good team though, they should make the playoffs with this Bergevin constructed roster.

  4. huge no thanks to Kadri. Not worth cost for a short term utility even with retention, which drives cost more.

  5. We gonna save 12mil without dach and laine, pay demidov 9 , then gallagher 6.6 save and some other small contract to pay fowler eventually. And the extra gap space will pay zharovsky,

  6. Please don't trade for Kadri, he's on the way down. We have lots of NHL quality bodies. Dach Newhook Gallagher Laine Struble Reinbacher, Guhle that can be traded.

  7. Sorry but why are you guys are always talking about aquiring players , yet the habs have too many players and they have no assets worth trading. With the habs cap situation and roster , they’ll have to get rid of 4 players to aquire 2. The habs aren’t trading Suzy , slaf or Amy of their decent prospects , so what do they have to offer? Reinbacher ? He’s not even on the nhl roster . If the habs want to make a trade to aquire a decent player , they’ll have to get rid of gallgher or Laine , there’s no way around it . But unfortunately to package gallagher or Laine in a package to aquire an impact player would cost a fortune.

Let’s just say for the sake of story , that Montreal ants to aquire Kadri for example , than they either have to package Laine or Gallagher in that trade or make two separate trades where they would make room for Kadri or whoever they’re after , this would cost a fortune

The focus should be put on getting rid of Gallagher for the good of the team now and next season.no other playoffs team would carry Gallagher at 6.5 , it is just stupid

The habs need to move 3 players , too much congestion

  8. The bruins aren’t trading Zacha to Montreal , it’ll be a slow trade deadline from eastern team , it’ll still be too tight in the ranking by the deadline.

  9. No. Got to get bigger/stronger and young talent needs more seasoning,….continue to Ramp. defense not playoff capable yet. Goalies steal no games.

  10. Laine and a 3rd to Carolina for Ryan Suzuki , Montreal retains half of Laine’s salary

Gallagher , a 3rd , a 4th and a prospect to somewhere (Vancouver?) for an AHLer , Montreal retains no salary

Then you have the room and cap space to pull a good trade , there’s zero chance Montreal can pull a beneficial trade while having Gallagher and Laine on the payroll

  11. I think newhook comes in and does well on the 1st line. I do think we need some grit, size and depth scoring. I think we stay the course. Add depth, size and grit. Stay the course. Give up little. This is just the beginning brothers. Thanks for all the hard work and in depth analysis boys demidovs coming out party this playoffs. I see us going deep.. Bolduc in the minors, no way I’m taking out Gally. All heart. We need that! Just keep liane. It’s not the year to give up the farm, it’s the year to add a piece, keep the roster. I’m losing it but adding another top end D, trade Struble. Keep our forwards, and add a beast on the 4th line that can score, heavy… I think 1 more top end D to play with Hutson. Could help everything…😅😂

  12. There are numerous examples of teams trying to accelerate the process and failling (Rangers, Devils even Ottawa.) Stay the course, now is not the time to start emptying the cupboards or over paying. Lots of teams are supposedly in on Kadri, MTL is probably there by default. I also think it's in Gorton and Hughes' nature to be VERY proactive on the phones and calling around. I would be too if I had MTL's prospect depth.

  13. i hope there's a timeline where the habs get Robertson and beat the Wild in the finals sometime in the next few years. Probably not this timeline, but if there's some dimension out there where you get to @ usa hockey in all the tweets for days and days… well, that would be very funny.

  14. Jason Robertson is consistently one of the slowest players in the NHL, he would not fit in Marty's system. If you think Gally looks out of place because of his foot speed, Robo would look just as bad.

  15. Laine will leave. And if the Canadians profited 15 to 20 ish million in the first round last year. Then they broke even. Laine, it was said, do not make the playoffs without his contributions. Of course this year he hasn’t helped. So 17 million. And they made 17 million. The same can cannot be said for Dach. Habs should walk in offseason from both. No loss to the team and no loss in finances. Can’t always say that.
