  1. Why is he still on this team? At this point id give him away to any rebuilding team willing to take on that money. This team has an insane logjam at the defense position and they refuse to flip any of them for a forward or goalie

  2. Rumor has it the San Jose sharks tried to trade for him in the offseason. So my guess is they just cleared space grabbed a 3rd goalie have plenty of picks and assets. I say he’ll be a Shark before the Olympic freeze.

  3. Trade idea that might actually work for both sides:

    MTL receives:
    • Dougie Hamilton @ $6.0M cap hit (NJD retains $3.0M)
    • One AHL contract (Devils’ choice)

    NJD receives:
    • Jayden Struble ($1.41M)
    • Kirby Dach ($3.36M)
    • 2027 MTL 5th*
    • 2026 MTL 7th

    *Condition: 2027 5th upgrades to NJD’s 2026 4th if
    1. Hamilton plays 25+ regular-season games for MTL, and
    2. MTL makes the playoffs

  4. As devils fan #1, 5 year season ticket holder. Dougie isn't being benched for retribution. Dude is there to produce offensively and he's not doing that. If he's not scoring, then hes pretty much useless because his awful defensively

  5. Dougie is a shell of his former self. His clapper is nowhere to be seen and when he's not scoring his defense is less than desired. I think a move would do him well and if it was me, I have no qaulms with going to San Jose and playing with a former teammate Tyler Toffolli, and a young stud like Celebrini. Either way this is business and things get to a point where you need to pick a team because your time here is done.

  6. I wouldn't worry about the Hughes brothers too much. There's been rumors that they are not happy with Dougie because his blocking a trade prevented a deal for Quinn to come to NJ from happening. I'm sure they won't mind seeing Hamilton go. The agent might be upset for a while but we'll see how it all goes down
