The ship has sailed on Kadri, after getting Danault it just doesnt add up, at this point they need to look at a winger for the 1st line or if you sre going to move Kapanen from line 2C it has to be a long term player

We can wait it out & in doing so, we get to keep our important assets for something more pressing down the road. It's more about player fit than the player. Teams aren't built by picking just the best players, otherwise there would be no need for the GM. LaCombe probably fits much better to the hole that Jones leaves. Now, if it was Quinn Hughes that got replaced, then Hutson would be the first choice.
On the topic of the Olympics. Biggest crime is no Russian team. You've got the greatest Russian player of all time, with more goals than the legendary 99, sitting out during a potential final NHL season. International hockey is not the same without Russia. This includes the juniors.

although Hutson is terrific, they don't need another puck moving defenseman as they have werenski and hughes. seth jones was likely going to play pk, big dman shutdown games and Lacombe plays well on the pk. I guess he just doesn't fit the puzzle
Jason Robertson or Tage Thompson would fit the chemistry. Nazim Kadri is a former Laugh. Once a lazy Laugh, always a lazy Laugh. Completely useless for the Canadiens and would only ruin their chemistry, not to mention chances of finally becoming successful again after thirty-something years.

For how rare and costly 2nd centers in the league, youd imagine the habs will do everything in their power to keep Kapanen playing and developing. Kapanen is basically a max win with zero cost. Ive been saying that habs 2nd line is the closest thing ive seen this season to the panthers 3rd line last season which dominated so much even mcdavid praised them.
I think Kadri could actually be a temporary solution on the wing for the top line. He’s a lefty, pretty tough, smart player and can take a faceoff occasionally.
