Denmark Announces Roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics

The Danish national team has unveiled its roster for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, set to take place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The team’s leading figures will be Ottawa Senators forward Lars Eller and Carolina Hurricanes winger Nikolaj Ehlers.

For Denmark, this will mark only the second appearance in the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament. At the 2022 Games in Beijing, the team finished in seventh place.

Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen said the roster looks very promising:

“It’s great to see who made the team. There are a lot of guys who have been playing together for several years, so it will be exciting to see how everything comes together. There aren’t many of us in the NHL, so having the chance to share this experience is really special.”

Andersen also emphasized the journey Denmark has taken to reach this stage:

“We’ve come a long way to be part of this level of competition, and we truly appreciate the opportunity to be here.”

Nikolaj Ehlers added that he is especially happy to share the Olympic experience with Andersen:

“I’ve never had a Danish teammate before, so this is particularly nice — especially in a new place for me. We’ve been chasing the Olympics for about ten years, and now it’s finally happening. It’s going to be unforgettable.”

Forward Lars Eller highlighted the importance of the upcoming tournament:

“I’ve played many games in the NHL and taken part in several World Championships, but playing in the Olympics in a true ‘best-on-best’ format is something special. It’s something you really want to check off your career list, and hopefully we can show that we’re a competitive team.”

He also spoke about the value of every tournament with the national team:

“Each World Championship is its own story — wins, losses, friendships, emotions. I’ve known many of these guys since the junior teams, so being back together again makes representing the national team truly special.”

The tournament format features 12 teams, each playing three group-stage games. The three group winners and the best second-place team advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the remaining eight teams will compete in a qualification round for the final four quarterfinal spots. The gold medal game will be played on February 22.

Denmark will compete in Group C, opening the tournament against Germany on February 12, followed by matches against the United States on February 14 and Latvia on February 15.

Ottawa goaltender Mads Søgaard described the team as extremely united:

“We’re a small country and often considered underdogs, but that’s become our strength. We believe in the process, give everything we have, and fight until the end. It’s a huge honor and a great source of pride to represent my country at this level.”
