Craig Button on the Kiefer Sherwood trade, pain coming for the Canucks and more
TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined the guys and shared his thoughts on the Kiefer Sherwood trade and the pain ahead for the Canucks with this rebuild.
I told you all back when Rutherford was first hired , within the first few months , that he was going to break the whole team up . He started cutting players from the herd and especially after the team scared the NHL by taking the Oilers to 7 games . Tocchet got his coach of the year and the team died after being up 3 games to 2 . They were not supposed to do that . I think it was Vancouver's win over Pittsburgh that got Rutherford fired in Pittsburgh.

Jim Benning built a team down the middle and drafted 1000 better than this regime Rutherford is a dinosaur and Alvin the chipmunk is garbage! We had Bo, JT, EP40 Hughes now we have EP20 and old slow wingers are 32 in league and they want to trust this regime to rebuild?!??? Stupid. They got peanuts for the best Defender in club history (donât want to hear four 1sts – they are not close to equal their FA and drafts are weak fire this regime and sell the team – doomed for 25+years – joke organization!!!!!
A rebuild is not pain. Its going to be fun and refreshing. Only the casuals and noobs will feel the pain. We have to have patience with these kids. Hopefully the idiot part of the fan base dont destroy these kids confidence. Its going to take time mistakes will be made for years.
Love how Donnie throws in the complete loser mentality of being a lifelong Canucks fan. We can have the worst season in NHL history, but we'd still lose the draft lottery. That's how ingrained losing in Vancouver is.

Whether we rebuilt this year or made the playoffs, i was happy with where we were.
Being able to trade Hughes and get a monster package back. That flushes the org with value and expedites the rebuild by years.
We have Hronek who we can trade next season (dont wanna commit everything to a single draft year). And he will return a haul as well.
Just by moving Hughes and Hronek, we are in a fantastic spot.
Then these moves for guys like Sherwood. Just icing on the cake.
Now we just gotta hit. We need the franchise 1C to build around.
There isnt one in this draft. Next year has a bunch of centers at the top of the draft.
But that's just hockey. The top end Cs don't come along every year, so you gotta get lucky. Shame we couldn't have bottomed out last year.
