On Sunday, the Flames announced they have acquired defenceman Zach Whitecloud, prospect defenceman Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first round pick (VGK), and a conditional 2028 second round pick (VGK) from Vegas in exchange for defenceman Rasmus Andersson.

As per usual we as Flames fans are underwhelmed. A Vegas 1st is like a high 2nd rounder. A nothing prospect and meanwhile we retain and take on a old one dimensional dman. Great. Only positive is if we play worst on defense and our own pick is as high as possible.
I like the trade, now move on.

VGK has more cap space now than they did before the trade.
I’m glad for Ras, the team and the fans its done. Ras has been a great Flame. More so when compared to Kylington who was maybe more highly touted. But never amounted to a hill of beans. Anderson had the skills, the longevity, and most of all the heart. So I’m also sad to see his time here end. Thank him for all the games he played, and will finally hope him all the best in Vegas; which now has to be my playoff team.
As for the return given all the variables Conny worked dam hard to get what he did and I say to him well done sir. I would move Whitecloud and possibly one more RD by the deadline. I would expect a second maybe even a late first adding to the overall haul they turned a second-round guy into. That and all he also gave us along the way. Great scouting and drafting. With Assets like Rasmus at some point you will become a cup contender. The only possible negative was he is the second guy that has gotten to free agency mucking up the returns? Maybe; and John who walked away for nothing. I think the Flames have to step up sooner. Either you have these guys and you know you do or you don’t. They scout well but do they read the room? A stitch in time saves nine.
Sooo…we flip Whitecloud at the deadline right?
Or package him another vet?
…maybe the Vegas firsts get packaged and we can move up the draft too.
Looks like Rasmus didn’t want to sign in Boston knowing Vegas was around the corner in FA.
So we get what we get, assets for Conroy to further leverage we hope.
Genuinely don't see how it makes sense to trade Ras when he's been our best defenseman, and he and Bahl have been our best d-pair when it comes to Wolfie (those 3 had the best chemistry!!). Weegs is having one of his worst seasons, and Hanley is nowhere near Ras' caliber.
This trade really feels like a step backward… I was coming around to ya, Conroy, but you've lost me again…
Connie said the right things for a flip too.. whitecloud comes from. A Stanley cup winner, eats big minutes.. and getting another Big D in the prospects.. . Hope a speedy Truckulent team is in our future

I hope Conroy is able to either get more control in this organization or leave in a few years for a better opportunity with a much better owner.

LOL ofc Whitecloud having a cup and 'veteran leadership' idk what it is with the flames and this mentality. You need way less of those guys then the flames think you do. You don't need 10 vets, you're good with 2-3! Just look at all the other rebuilding teams right now.
