I wonder if this would have changed anything?
The Canadiens fell 5–3 to the Sabres in a high-scoring affair. Tage Thompson stole the spotlight with a hat trick and two assists, including his 200th NHL goal, while Josh Doan and Noah Östlund each chipped in offensively to fuel Buffalo’s potent attack. Montreal battled back multiple times — Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki each recorded a goal and an assist, and Ivan Demidov also scored — but Buffalo’s firepower proved just a bit too much. Special teams played a big role with four power-play goals combined. Sabres goaltender Colten Ellis made 20 saves, and Jacob Fowler stopped 22 for Montreal.

Not the game you wanted to see from the Habs tonight – say what you will about the calls or lack thereof, they had to put more shots on net, they needed to put more pressure in the zone and had to look more put together.
They face the Sabres 2 more times before the end of the month so lets hope that Buffalo didn't set the tone.

Gotta say Whiskey that Hutson play you sound Extremely biased… if Suzuki goes for a check and Marchand brings his stick up and cross checks him in the face.. you're pissed, right? Hutson has to move or take the hit there, poor stick discipline.
Buffalo wanted it much more. They are sick of losing. Habs not hungry enough.
I still believe Fowler is the future of this team, but I'm wondering if he is ready yet? He was weak in this game. No big saves this time. The Sabres' second goal shouldn't have happened, if only he had closed the gap. The kid is incredibly talented, but he's still learning, obviously.
The other weakness of the team is too many penalties. The referees are not always good, but they'll have to work on this if they want to win more regularly.
Habs have skill, speed, now we could use more size. Year 4 of a 5 year rebuild, so let's shore up the "size" part of the rebuild. I have faith in HuGo…they know what the needs are, so let's see what they come up with. We know what we have…plus what is coming through the pipeline…let's get the other pieces to the puzzle by 2027.
Definitely a game worth forgetting. Enjoy Hockey Day with your son, Whisk
Agree on your compete comment. Montreal ratcheted up the intensity the last half of the third and you ask yourself why they can’t bring that earlier on. On the goalies, the three goalie system has to stop. Get one of them going and keep him in net unless back to back. I don’t care which one goes down but it was obvious Fowler sat too long to be on his game
No Canadian team will win as long as Bettman is there.
Is there a correlation between the Habs criticism of referees earlier in the year and they continuously being screwed game in game out ever since?
Habs are small. Habs are soft. Habs don’t measure up well against bigger teams. Though management is looking for size it has to realize that their beloved coveted coach does not use the size he has very well. The two toughest players on the blueline are only getting 10 mins at most a game. Yet Matheson is out there waving his stick in a forecheck harmlessly. He continues to provide free screens for the other teams physicality on our goalies. He doesn’t hit. He doesn’t clear the crease he is pathetic. Yet, he is rewarded playing against the other teams best lines, and killing offensive rushes with passes to nobody or giving the puck away. This is on Marty and subsequently the management to get bigger, play bigger and measure up. St Louis has no answer for team toughness. The size players we have are not utilized. It’s embarrassing.
Ooof, looks like maybe they shouldn't have bad mouthed the refs earlier in the season…
They played so much more physical and did a fantastic job stopping us at the blue line and then playing a super hard forecheck to not let us set up how we wanted. Buffalo was looking good that game, a few blunders by the D but overall wasn't their best. Was hoping for the Ol' Comeback Habs. (Texier getting it in at the start would've changed things I bet with momentum).
Colton Ellis is NOT from Nova Scotia… he is from CAPE BRETON.
and the phantom sticks like Danault's penalty a few games back
At times, it felt like the Habs were playing against the Canadiens in Buffalo.
I dunno… they have very similar playing styles.
Flowler let in maybe 2 he'd probably like to have back.
The Habs intensity dropped in the 3rd. which is weird because that's when they usually turn it on.
Too much space given, the return of the bad habit, anticipating the puck possession and taking off on offence too early, overskating pucks on exit or in the central zone.
They started the game well, and then slowly declined.
The last few games, it's looking like they're carrying 2 lines that aren't delivering anything. Bolduc-Daneault-Anderson, Blais-Veleno-Gally
Like, they should have ONE defensive line, and one either robust or chaos line.
Now it's like they have 2 defensive lines out of 4. Neither of those lines cycles the puck in the O zone well so they're even useless for clock management.
And WTF is Gally still doing on the 2nd PP??? FFS!
Seems like I had a lot to say about that…
Is this the 5th game in a row now with a random high stick penalty that we didn't deserve?
2:06 im glad you said it, cuz i was feeling the same thing… just didnt wanna bully the kid. Seems like the goaltending tide is turning back again to Monty looking like #1, doby #2 and Fowler as an excellent back up plan. Few more years and he’ll be top of the league. His numbers are still high
Sabres were better than I expected; fast & play fast; similar to our Habs but bigger. We will need to tighten up our defensive game. They are good and will be around for years to come.
Does Marty know he can play a goalie 2 games in a row?
Whiskey a very wise decision on your trip with your son. He will cherish the trip a lot longer than we will remember a video.
This may be sacrilege but Fowler needs to go to Laval. He may have "pedigree" and a "highish draft pick" but I just care about actual results. Dobes is winning more games and no matter what analytics say a win is better than a loss with superior advanced statistics. Another year in the AHL will help Fowler and we need to win these games.
Complaining about the referees is like getting angry about the weather. The NHL's officiating is terrible and will remain terrible until they develop a transparent rating system for on ice officials. Until then horrible calls are just a fact of the game. We may hate when calls don't go our way but so what?
Dobes is Montreal's starting goalie. Not playing him against Buffalo is odd.
They have problems finishing their plays and moving it out of their own zone. They still have problems in their defensive zone. Players forget to stick with their man. They will have to play better if they want to make the playoffs.
Send down Bolduc with Fowler to the AHL. Bolduc needs to find himself. He is a liability. Fowler needs more development in the AHL. If Bolduc does not improve over the next few weeks, he may not be around next year.
The weird officiating is really hurting the game for me
Just re-call … KEEP ! the faith ;
Oh 🤯 COW —> field ?
MG.
The interference call against Gulie was legit, they showed it on the MSG Sabres broadcast. It was… flagrant and completely without a reason. Terrible penalty to take and again, completely legit.
They're tired and they need some reinforcements. I am so tired of people saying we don't need Laine on this team. Give your heads a solid shake.
Somebody got to teach those young players to embellish those holding penalties/ Hutson should have let go off is stick to get the call 😮
WHEESKI… I am withering. I am fading. I am a hollow shell of what I once was, wandering this cruel, pointless universe with nothing but hunger in my soul and despair in my veins.
I’m starving for points at this stage.
FEED ME, WHEESKI.
Before I collapse into dust and become a tragic legend whispered about in the ruins of my own ambition.
I can't believe you didn't show the texier missed goal😅
Excellent analysis!
Have fun at the festivities. Good call on not taking videos. Memories are better than videos
Went to the game last night, first habs game. Definitely not the outcome I would’ve liked but you aren’t going to win them all. Was cool to see the young guys especially
Fowler was sent to Laval this morning 🙂 Dobes back in the game
TSN couldn't provide ANY footage of that disallowed goal or that "phantom penalty"/
WTF?!
Hey, The Lane Train hit 100 assists last night in his 132nd game, the fastest d-man to do so since Sergei Zubov who did it in 127 games. The second fastest in NHL history. I'm hating these BS penalties, it seems like once the HABS are on a roll they penalize us. That Hockey Day in Canada sounds like a blast, have fun with your son, they don't stay little very long.
They need to have the D stay home Look at goal Differential 162 – to 159 … Again we need a new Coach and were on our way to bringing home the CUP!!
I spotted penalties by the Habs that weren’t called. It happens in every game.
Once again the refs deciding to hand out the win. So sick of refs doing this because if we did ANY of this to them it wouldve been immediate penalties as ALWAYS. I dont feel bad for buffalo fans anymore not when they are doing this type of crap with their refs.
As always great video, this one was a disappointing one. Lets hope saturday we actually show up to bring our A game.
Nine minutes of whining about refs, lmao. Sad state when that's what you have to grasp to.
Complaining about the officials is a loser’s lament. And also falls on deaf ears with any Sabres fan born before 1999.
Hey good job with the editing on this one man. Lots of effort went in there with the zooms and the replays. 👌
