Colorado Avalanche fans are buzzing as Artemi Panarin’s name enters trade rumors with the Olympic roster freeze looming. Could Panarin’s offensive firepower push the Avalanche over the edge, or would the cap complications and risk of a one-year rental shake up a team already poised for a Stanley Cup run? Hosts Chris Micieli and Zach Pearson dissect the feasibility of adding Panarin, weigh the costs—including the fate of top prospect Gavin Brinley—and debate how a blockbuster move might disrupt Colorado’s chemistry and playoff aspirations.
The episode breaks down upcoming challenges as the Avalanche return to face the surging Nashville Predators, analyze defensive strengths, and examine critical injuries including Ross Colton’s status. Listener predictions, quirky stats, and essential insights into the Avs’ trade strategy round out the discussion. Will Colorado maintain its dominance or risk too much for a big-name acquisition as Stanley Cup hopes intensify?

lol Vegas will get him like every other free agent
Panarin allegedly only wants to play 1st line ever and that was one of his big deciding factors when he signed in New York and turned down the big Avs offer to sign him in the first place. Panarin allegedly would hate being put in the Blendar so to keep this short, If the Avs want Panarin they can get him for nothing in the summer as a free agent. The few resources available to the Avs need to be spent on a 3C and D upgrade/depth.
Panarin looks like father time got him this season as well, why would any team pay the high cost of acquiring a top 6 forward that looks like he fell off the cliff, add even more cost to get the 50% retention, and in the Avs case specifically they'd still need to spend more resources to get a 3C and a 5-6 D. Which part of Panarins game this season is shouting, give up all of your good futures/assets for whats highly likely to be an unhappy rental situation.
Even if he says he wants to join the Avs now at this point and that he would suck it up and get Blendar'd around the different lines, Everyone already knows how he really feels and I personally believe trading for him or even signing him this summer would be a massive mis allocation of resources.
When it comes to trades I'd be interested in seeing the Avs make a move for a middle 6 guy who predominately plays on the 3rd line but can play 2nd line minutes if need be. Like colton,Kivi, and brindley seem to be able to do.
Personally I might try my luck with sherwood. it'd probably be cheaper than Panarin as well and he'd be easier to fit into the line up. Plus I can't help but think it'd be Drouin 2.0. where when the top 6 is healthy where would he go. He wouldn't have a place in the top 6 but he's to good for the bottom 6.
Then I'd try for a 2nd or 3rd pair defensemen to go with Malinski. Because Makar and Toews aren't going anywhere and I don't think the success of the Manson and Burns pairing has been a fluke either. And with malinski having a career high season…I think Girard has Become the odd one out.
Especially given that burns kinda took his spot next to Manson and I don't think Malinski's numbers have gotten better with Girard. But I might be wrong on that.
Either a very gritty 4th line vet like Cogliano was, or an upgrade on the 3rd D pairing, would be my 2 wishes. Thought if LOC returns there's a bottom 6 vet who us very gritty, and I could be ok with our defense but I can't help but think that adding another vet like Jack Johnson was for us may pay off if Sammy G goes down like during the cup run.
The Avs broadcast team are homers, but 1) there's far far worse 2) At least they don't outright lie to the watchers about what is happening in the game.
I don't want to give up Sammy G forever for 2 months of the bread man. We have a good team, let it rock
Mathieu Olivier and Karill Marchenko are the only players I'm remotely interested in.
To Dallas
No on the bread man , if I get the choice I’d rather have ROR or Crosby if Pitts doesn’t make the playoffs! Imagine a line of ROR-Colton-Landy, that’s a checking line for the playoffs that can grind you in the ground! Brindley absolutely don’t trade him unless it’s a piece that’s staying
The panarin speculation is just leftover from when they tried to sign him in free agency. Theres literally no smoke to this in the present day. Friedman was admittedly spitballing
Makar and (eventually) Toews against McJesus and DS could work in overtime- Dawg or Necas for the third
Never trust a bald man…never.
