Cam Robinson: Draft projections and trade targets for the Canucks rebuild.

Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects also stops by to chat about the NHL trade market and the interest in additions from Jersey to MSG to Carolina. Cam jumps into the latest draft projections too and on the ascension of Stenberg to Number 1. Plus, he looks at two centres who may or may not have a shot at cracking the top 3.

  1. I believe Petterson is still a 100 point a season player. He needs another star on his line though. No more playing him with slow forth liners.

  2. The chuckles from Blake and Matthew after Cam's "That's what good, bad teams do" was worth the price of admission.

  3. TL;DR Canucks rebuild watch:

    * Pettersson trade smoke is real; teams have been kicking tires for a while. Carolina is the main fit (cap space + assets). If VAN actually moves Petey, it’s a big “we’re committing to a long rebuild” signal.
    * Any serious CAR package probably needs a legit young center/prospect back (they float Logan Stankoven as the type), plus picks.
    * Boeser: same questions — will he waive, and what’s his value right now given contract/foot speed + needing a play-driving center to pop offensively.
    * “Weaponize cap space” idea: take NJD’s Andre Palat contract only if it comes with sweeteners (pick/prospect).

    Draft notes:

    * Ivar Stenberg trending toward #1; McKenna still top-tier but some teams are getting cautious (even outside top 3).
    * Tynan Lawrence’s BU jump is a risk; slow start could slide him, while Caleb Malholtra is gaining helium as top center.
    * Giants injuries (Ryan Linne + Matthysse Preston) may ding stock short-term, but Linne’s likely still 1st round and could be there with VAN’s later 1st.

  4. Why are you guys making excuses for all these over paid under producing players, If i did that at my job i'd get fired! Petey, Boeser, Myers, Marcus P, Evander Kane, etc, etc, etc, should be traded or benched or sent to the minors.

  5. Agreed, let Peterson go. No passion, no commitment to give everything on every shift. I dont see him give everything on ANY shift
By that same token….do not draft Mckenna. He is basically the same player …. lots of talent but seems so disengaged….do not do it.
Am I right here…..yes I am right here.

  6. When I look at McKenna I see 90s and early 2000s greatness, what people looked for then when the overall team was worse. It is much harder to play that type of hockey today. I think Stenbergs hockey is the better hockey.
    How you score matters.
Also what you do for your team other than scoring.

But I still think those two are the obvious choices for first pick.

  7. A lot of Stenbots out there recently. Expected after the yearly eurofantasy tournament. However McKenna still owned him in that tournament.
I think the harsh reality that Canucks fans have to face is that neither player is a saviour. Plus the story that Stenberg may be the Canucks default pick just because he has a better shot of actually being re-signed. Which is why all the Stenbots are pumping his tires in Vancouver. If the Canucks actually win the lottery though, and use it on Stenberg over McKenna, that just adds to the embarrassment level of the franchise.
The Canucks are in the dreaded position of being a completely undesireable team to play for because there's no hope, but in order to build hope, they need a legitimate franchise player to be brought into the franchise. Who in the hell is that even going to be? They missed the boat on both local boys Bedard and Celebrini, so it's clear that not even that option is in the cards to help prod this accursed franchise out of the abyss.

  8. Pety's line mates have put up a 4% shooting total this year. His line mate avg shooting career is 15%… Debrusk is shooting 1% 5on5…
Just watch the games, pety feeds someone in the middle of the slot 5+ times a game. No one feeds him consistently. Debrusk and boeser need to be dropped down to the bottom 6 and play pp1. If they are going to put up nothing 5on5 then put the young guys in the top 6. It makes way more sense to get ogren, Sasson, karlsson and lakarimaki playing in the top 6 with garland and pety.

    Line 1
    Ogren – pety – karlsson
    2
    Lakarimaki – Sasson – garland

  9. Trade Sherwood to a contender for a 1st rounder plus picks/prospects, and Garland is also worth at least a 1st rounder. You go into the next draft with one high pick in the top 3-5, two mid to lower picks in the 15th or lower(one of them is from Minny), and one low 20th-30th pick, you're in for a solid rebuild. You add that to Buium, Rossi, and Ohgren, then you've got a solid young team…

  10. I mean I was born the same yar the Canucks were born so I'm all for team TANK! Lets finally have a real (the first real) rebuild. Hell I'd even like to bring in Trevor Linden to manage it.
