Well, they did it! Danny Briere and Christian Dvorak agreed late Monday night to a 5-year, $5.15M AAV contract extension for the 30-year-old center & pending UFA.

Dvorak plays really well in Tocchet's system.
I like the extension he’s a good player and solid every night that’s what we need 50 points a year and we know what we are getting every night so I’m on board and it’s a cheap deal

The only thing worse than talking about Michkov ice time is talking about Couturier getting traded or bought out. It's common sense that neither one is happening.
He's a solid player, but come on, this deal feels unnecessary.
So Dvorak is average at best for a 2C/3C. Is that worth $5M? Seems high. Fans don’t watch the other teams and see how good their second and third line centers are.

so much negativity for an honest player that fit with our group perfecly well…. very disapoint by this analysis…even if he drop on the 3th line, tocchet will always find something useful with his usage because of his versatility… And why find another center for Zegras if he scores 80 points with Dvorak? Assuming Danny, Jonesy and Tocc do their job, the thought of "he's only putting up points next to Zegras" is null and void. If DVO ends up being an "ok" 2C alongside guys like Martone/Michkov/TK/Foerester/Tippett, he should still have viable pathway to 50+ points a year for the next 3-4 years. If he can put up 50 points the next 3-4 years, this contract is perfectly fine. I don't think it's as bad as what is sounds here.
What if in 3/4 years we're in an REAL run for the cup, and dvorak is on our 4th line, yes a bit expensive, but he's the type of rental you pick up for a run, he's a good player down middle. I don't hate this signing.
There is nothing wrong with this contract. The cap is not what it was 5 years ago folks – $5M is like a $3 – 3.5M deal a few years ago, which Dvorak is well worth. Term may be a problem, but it won't be a boat anchor by any means.
This just goes to show u how far behind they really are . No impact free agents available , u can have all the cap room in the world , if u can’t get an impact player ( players ) it does not matter .
They have nobody , this unfortunately is the best they can do. When your prospects are not ready or might not be what u were hoping, these are the only moves u can make to stay competitive. No matter how good a job you do ,you can’t make up for a decade of bad drafting and poor contracts in 2/3 years .
$5-million in the new cap era is not much. The term is the only potential issue, but locking up a player like Dvorak is a no-brainer for a team with such little center depth.
This is a risky move for sure, but I’m here for it. The Flyers are at a point in the rebuild now where the tanking stage is over and it’s time to slowly add core pieces to build a winning team and help the young players progress. Clearly Dvorak has something that Tocc, Briere and Jonesy really value, it’s not like they’ve been handing out contracts to vets like free candy.
This is an awful move. Its one of the worst things we can do. We risk not having a C? WHO CARES? The position we are in requires us to be a bottom 10 team. We want to be bad. That is how you efficiently get a #1 C or a #1 D prospect. We dont have either of those. Without those pieces Michkov, Martone and Zegras are just the new Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds. Primes wasted in PHI. Charlie is way off base with the trade for C thing. These type of guys are not commonly available. Look at the last 20 years, how many #1Cs have been dealt? Thornton, Eichel and maybe RoR. Those arent good odds. Realistically who are you going to get? Charlie mention Thomas, OK he's 26 not a bad fit but what makes you think he's available? STL is in the same boat of refusing to rebuild properly. VAN is refusing to rebuild properly. Who does that leave you with? 32 yr old Schiefele? A struggling 23 yr old Beniers whos signed long term with a Coots like term? Thats a significant risk. You cant afford to be locked into both Coots and Beniers and not have either one be a top C, A 35 yr old Kadri? A 34 yr old Oreilly? No other team is moving a #1C and even if we deal for one, we still gotta deal for a #1D. We couldnt match a package for Hughes but some how we are going to trade for basically 2 players of that caliber?
Luchanko, Berglund and Nesbitt are nice pieces but neither is a #1C. Two of them are potentially #3 Cs. Briere is building this team backwards……. Same as Hextall did…..
