The NHL hates the oilers and doesn't want to see them win/be represented in international events at all. It would be the greatest middle finger to the rest of the league to see this team win a cup, something the entire nhl has been rooting against ever since the oilers won the Mcdavid draft lottery.
I don’t really care any sort of cool drama is completely gone just purely for the fact we don’t see Sid and ovi battle as captains for their country’s likely last time before they both retire, I care more to see Leon pull off some crazy upset at this point to be frank
When comparing some of the Oilers against "the best of the NHL" especially for team Canada, there are going to be players chosen over the Oilers players (no matter how good their chemistry with McDavid, doesn't mean they will play with him at the Olympics). The bonus for the Oilers is right now most of the team will be able to rest up for the playoff push with only 2 players being in Italy.
They’re not represented because there are plain and simple better players to put in their spots. You can’t argue mcdavid and Leon are the best two players for their respective countries. Pretty much everyone else on the team has a list of better players above them.
