It seems like this has been talked about several times now in the past few weeks. The Leafs simply can't make a good enough offer to get the best available defenseman on the market right now. 2028 1st + Cowan + some roster player can easily be beaten by several other teams that would be interested in Ras.
Toronto might be a shit team in 3 years (2028 first pick) . Marner is gone already, tavares is aging, Mathews has taken a step back, and goaltending/blueline as always been just average. They feel like a Vancouver canucks type scenario waiting to happen.
