The effort displayed by leaders Mathews and Nylander is disgusting. No system works without effort. Berube will sadly get fired because 2 spoilt brats have quit on him. It's clear the lunatics are running the asylum in Toronto
So the number one thing is, the players are babies and they want the money, but they donāt want to do the job, and now they just want to blame it on the coach

Why woudl an in-demand coach ever agree to go to a team where half the cap is taken up by guys with NMC's.
Even if the coach has the support of the GM, the GM can't shake up the roster instead of firing the coach, because he needs the players' permission to do so.

Mathews is a skilled player, but in no fashion a leader. Not a proper Captain.

They took the C off of hometown boy Tavares then ran hometown boy Marner out of town and kept 2 outsiders who donāt live, breath, sleep or bleed blue and itās obvious.
Berube's system works, obviously, they were one game away from having a 3-0 lead against the defending Cup champions. It's the players on the ice who fold under pressure, crumble and shrink into ashes, looking like Pompeii after the eruption of Vesuvius. It's a disgrace to the Maple Leaf on the front of the jersey.

Habs fan here. I think Toronto has had some bad luck in several playoff rounds, and that the criticism as āchokersā isnāt entirely deserved. But from a culture perspectiveā¦what I see is that the problem has always been Matthews. Heās fineā¦just never thirsty. The Habs have been far and away the more mediocre team during this era, but I would argue Montreal only went further in 2021 because it had players willing to sacrifice to win. I have not seen this in any meaningful way from the Toronto core.
Matthews wants in LA so bad
The team is built around Matthews. If he isn't their best player, and one of the best players in the league, the team is sunk. And he is playing far below his pay grade.
Basically the Leafs lost a perennial All-Star level play making winger in Marner and replaced him with Laughton, Macceli and Joshua…That is obviously contributing negatively to the regular season lack of success we see this season vs the previous half dozen years…The offense ran thru Mitch…Not saying the Core didn't need to be modified, but in my opinion you let the wrong guy go….Willie should've and still should be gone….Matthews (if we believe this is the new Matthews forever more) should also be traded. I know they've got NMC and it may be too late, but that would be my plan of attack.

They are playing like they don't want to make a mistake so everything is tentative, you can see it in the pp they can't wait to dump the puck to another player when they get pressured and never can gain the zone. I really think there needs to be new voices for coaches if there is any chance of salvaging the season and it would be a mistake right now to make trades until a new coach is hired
