John Gibson earns ANOTHER shutout, as Detroit beats Chicago | Quinn Hughes traded to Wild

The Detroit Red Wings could have easily laid an egg in Chicago, the final game of a long road trip. But in a return to Chi-town, Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane showed out. John Gibson in net won his 5th straight start, earning his 2nd shutout of the season as well. Elsewhere, Quinn Hughes is traded for a HAUL in deal with Minnesota. #LGRW

  1. Let’s fucking go red wings. ASP is the truth. Would’ve been nice to get Quinn but oh well. Haven’t seen the wings play a full 60 min like they did last night in AWHILE! Against a bad team too… they played exactly how they should have! Andrew copp I am rooting for you i have sent so much hate ur way but right now ur okay. All lines of fwd look great! Shoutout danielson and soderblom. Young guys have REALLY lead the way for this team the past few games and it shows hpw much it helps!!! damn near forgot about Larkin watching danielson and aoderblom play… and lers not forget kaner and cat clicking, with substatial forechecking help from copp! Todd was right to move kasper down to the third line. A lot of good to take from the last few games.

  2. It made my night being at the game, and hearing the “red wings suck” chants start out the gate. then 55 seconds in, cat scores one 😂.

  3. Personally I'm glad Detroit didn't mortgage the future to go get a superstar. Hockey is a team sport, and the Red Wings are gelling, getting fantastic chemistry, with the younger players coming along nicely. We've got vets like JVR and Copp who are really coming to life and bringing the new guys along. Would it be wise to throw all that up in the air to bring in a guy who…. hmm, maybe a prima donna after all, may get injured, may not re-sign? Doesn't Detroit have more points than this superstar's team…? It's a bit of madness to throw away what you have and assume that the other thing is better. Keep on going with what we've got! LGRW!!!

  4. You thought they got a haul for Hughes? I thought they basically stole him from Vancouver. Trading Hughes now would be like trading Nick Lidstrom in the early 2000s. I thought they should've at least got another first round pick, another prospect, and some lower round picks. He's the best left shot defenseman in the world. I'd give up Edvinsson, Kasper, MBN, and a 1st for Hughes. Then do whatever Quinn Hughes wants to get him to sign.

  5. I can't help but wonder: If Kasper wasn't having this epic sophomore slump, would the Wings have ended up with Hughes? Both Marco's aren't having great years.. so maybe it really came down to Edvinsson. I hear they specifically wanted a LHD. Still.. had Kasper been killing it offensively along with bringing his physical two-way game, could that have tipped the scales?

Glass half full: Maybe we are the team that trades to get him from Minnesota next year or he walks to UFA any ways and we snag him. It's still possible. That's all that counts lol.

  6. Patrick Kane has better points per 60 this year than DeBrincat if empty net is omitted.

Among the top 8 points/60 American forwards (Cat is 3rd, Kane 8th), Cat has a huge lead on the other 7 in empty net points, with 5 in 33 games. Kane has 0. These faked numbers – and they ARE fake – greatly skew relative perception of the two players among a fanbase that doesn't look that carefully into things.

The team is winning 17-3 w Kane on the ice over the last 8 games, 16-4 w Cat on the ice. Kane is +11 over the last 8 games, Cat +10. If you drop the 1 empty net point, the 2 have the same number of points over the last 8, only Kane's scoring has been way more clutch. In the last 8 games he's quietly been in on a ton of clutch play that made the difference between points and no points. And in fact his play to Rasmussen 6v5 late to steal a point at Boston, started the whole hot streak.

  7. Try to imagine we are in the playoffs. It’s a grind. Are you better off with a guy that’s 5’8” and 180 lbs and is prone to injury OR have a 6’6” 220 lb workhorse that can beat your opponents down like a chris pronger. It’s the playoffs not the regular season. That’s why I feel Yzerman most likely drew the line on edvisson. Defense wins championships. Fragile hughs is a regular season star sure but no more a proven playoff guy than what we have
