The Goalie Battle NOBODY Saw Coming In Calgary 🔥 | FN Barn Burner

Boomer, Pinder and Rhett dive into the recent play of Flames goaltender Devin Cooley, who’s been terrific lately and has earned more starts because of it. Could a goalie controversy be brewing in Calgary? It’s clear Dustin Wolf is the future and a rising star in this league, but Cooley has simply been the better goalie this season. The guys break down what it means moving forward.

  1. Oilers D are brutal. And their ownership is stuck in the 80's.

4th in D spending in league.

And worst in all defensive categories, with offense leading puck posseasion stats = their D is even less than bad. Ie: some bad D has offense that turns the puck over all the time (puck in D zone).

The Oilers have had really good goalies go away. Talbot, Stolarz and more.

  2. Wouldn't it be funny if flames traded for brossoit bring him back to calgary and sent Cooley to oilers for 3rd round pick 4th round pick.

  3. Out of all the problems, this is a good one to have with the schedule being so condensed because of the Olympics. Having one solid goalie is nice, having that are being solid really helps. We have that down here with Jake Ottinger and Casey DeSmith. DeSmith has been solid, especially on the road for Dallas. It’s not just us though, look at Colorado. Yes, Makar, MacKinnion, and Necas take the headlines. However, look at how well Scott Wedgewood has been playing while Kenzie Blackwood was recovering from surgery.

Should you trade Cooley, I think maybe if a team is desperate enough to want him and the return is nice.

  4. If Calgary was smart they would play Cooley as much as possible before the trade deadline to increase his value then ship him off to somebody

  5. Imagine Coolie is just hitting his prime! Trade Wolf to San Jose for Michael Misa, that’s your top 1C calibre prospect. They draft McKenna or Stenberg for a top line Calibre winger. In three years time could be looking at Mckenna-Misa-Coronato, Huberdeau-Reschny-Gridin for lines 1 and 2. Lots of good middle six calibre prospects in the system already. Some great defensive prospects with offensive upside, in Parekh, Brzutewicz, and Mews. Don’t get me wrong, I love Wolf but if Coolie finishes the season at or near those numbers? You have to consider it! Maybe Coolie can fetch the same return from San Jose if his numbers stay at or near where they are at so far. Yes yes this is pure fantastic thinking, but I would be really happy if it came to pass!

  6. I would sign Cooley to a 3 year deal for 2M a year.I think he would take this deal and we don’t have to worry about a good back up for the next 3 and a half years.

  7. Saw this coming last year…coolie looked amazing in preseason last year and wolf was shielded last year with vladar…i told friends that wolf would fall off this year and coolie would take the backup position and would put up good numbers

  8. I feel for nashville who were doing great until they made those big signings. Now they are fighting for the worst team in the league.

  9. I dont think Wolf is the goalie Calgary thinks he is , they need to split the duties between them . IMO Wolf is responsible for the bad start losing games they should have won , If Cooley was playing in some of those games they wouldnt be in their current position .

  10. No drama. He's been good but those numbers are going to come back down to earth. We've seen this before in Chad Johnson had a hot month then fell back to earth. It's good for wolf to get a break. Why the organization decided to ride him like a rented mule is beyond me.
