No wonder Toch is so well liked and respected in the hockey world. He is a fabulous communicator and clearly thinks the game on a higher level. Flyers are in a good hands with him and his staff. The media must love working with him as he is genuine and thoughtful in his answers.
Kind of interesting Tocchet made mention of celebrini’s conditioning level and the fact he’s a 200 foot player (while he has objectively bad defensive metrics), which happened to be the same complaints he had about Michkov. There just seems to be a huge disparity in how the fanbase, and likely the front office, view Michkov and how Tocchet does. Newsflash you’ll never be able to groom the kid into a 200 foot player if he’s being sheltered away from the other teams high skilled players. San Jose has given Celebrini the leash to make mistakes and opportunity to grow his defensive game by playing high leverage minutes. But in our case, Michkov doesn’t get the minutes that will ultimately make him a 200 foot player. This team has to balance struggling to make the playoffs this year and developing the players who will make us a perennial playoff team in the future. If you don’t let the young guys develop we’re gonna end up in the he same middling position that forced us into a rebuild in the first place.
