Washington Capitals find unexpected center depth as Justin Sourdif shines on the second line. Can Sourdif’s breakout performance become the long-term solution, or will the team seek answers outside the organization? Dan Holmi examines Sourdif’s chemistry with Tom Wilson and Ilya Protas, the implications of injuries to Pierre-Luc Dubois and Nic Dowd, and why Spencer Carbery’s confidence in the young center is paying off.
Holmi also explores Logan Thompson’s rapid bounce-back in net and how a suddenly surging blue line—featuring goal-scoring contributions from Jakob Chychrun, John Carlson, and Martin Fehervary—has transformed the Capitals’ attack. Key discussions include the Capitals’ climb in the Metropolitan Division standings, the evolving impact of new acquisitions, and whether the team’s recent momentum is a sign of playoff contention or just a temporary surge. Are the Capitals building something sustainable, or will roster questions linger as the season progresses?

When hockey pundits say a player has a great motor, this is what Sourdif is all about.
Edit: I actually posted this before you mentioned, that Tom had said that. Haha
Good morning, Dan. Yeah, I'm excited that Sourdif is bringing speed in transition and seemingly defensively aware too. Gotta like a 2 way player. The kid has poise and this is Sourdi's first full NHL season too! I haven't looked at his FO% but I guess he's doing ok at the dot. Thing is, he can only get better with more coaching, more experience! Time for the Caps to jump all over the Jets with Helleybuck out tonite. LGC!!!!!!
People will scoff at this but put pld at 3c and keep sourdif at 2.
So glad to see Sourdif getting high praise, thank you for that. Some of the fans here early on were commenting that he is a Fringe nhler, I hope they are coming around and seeing he is more than that. he's a responsible reliable 2 way player. I think he's doing great considering his nhl experience. I see him as more of a 3rd line center. I think his play is sustainable, however I'm not sure if he can produce points at a desired top 6 rate.
with this sorudif add, maybe chris patrick did do something to make the caps better after all. some 4 -d chess.
The Caps organization has done a nice job in replenishing their young talent. They will be competitive indefinitely as I see it
