What’s Behind Utah’s Mammoth Dive in November?

The Mammoth were one of the hottest teams in the NHL’s first few weeks, but everything has gone wrong since then… other than the penalty kill.

  1. We talk about the offensive talent all of the time… what about the defensive talent? I am guessing that it is not at the same level?

  2. Great assessment. Thanks for this one! I'm still learning hockey and these discussions are enlightening

  3. I still think Tourigny has a mulligan this year. D is revamped, some young, some old, some injured. Sergachev is a liability on the backend and seems to have already infected Simashev. Streaky starting goalie and a questionable BU goalie. Obviously, something still isn't exactly working with their 2way play and they have no physicality. I thought Cooley and/or Guenther being with Keller/Schmaltz would shore up their top line's 2way play but that hasn't happened. The Peterka/McBain/Crouse line is the only one working right now and while I love it, I think they need to split up Crouse and McBain to give some energy and a physical presence to one of their other top lines. Hayton and Carcone are the two I was worried about at the start of the season, they need to stop laying on the ice and actually play hockey.

  4. Every part of hockey can be streaky, scoring, defense, goaltending, it can get your way for a while and then it can go south for a while, it's early.

  5. the coaching staff is messing with the line combinations forcing cooley and keller on the same line and it's not working.

  6. They’re an okay-but-not-amazing team that was hot to start the year. They’ll probably compete for a playoff spot but no one should be surprised if they miss.

  7. Feel like this is the 300th video of “what’s wrong with insert this team here”. Seems like this year has been extremely reactionary to small sample size of games

  8. A mammothly good October has turned into a relatively mammoth disaster in November lol for the Mammoth.

  9. This has been a brutal month for us mammoth fans. Tourigny needs to go, you can’t have all this go on for so long and not believe it’s a coaching problem. We can never close games out when it comes down to the wire, everyone is playing with no heart and no energy, no urgency, sloppy passing, the power play is the worst I’ve ever seen, idk what has happened, but Turigny obviously isn’t doing his job

  10. There was a video interview released today or yesterday where Ian Cole and sergachev admit that the players basically just don’t care enough about winning. Kinda crazy to just say it like that

  11. If they were playing like this the whole year, that’s one thing. But drastically dropping off after the 7 game win streak makes it so much more frustrating

  12. I would be surprised if Ryan Smith would fire a coach in season in the second year of his ownership and in Salt Lake City. If they miss the playoffs, yes he may be let go after the season, but in season is not a Ryan Smith way of doing things.

  13. The truth is we got mooshed by Biz Idiot 😂 nah, in all honesty I wouldn't miss Tourigny if this continuous into December. Maybe we get Peter DeBoer? Wouldn't mind that at all.

  14. I'm still optimistic they make the playoffs. It's been a tough road heavy schedule and will continue to be for a while. Which means a home heavy schedule on the back end.

  15. It comes down to coaching – you can see it in their level of play on the ice. Here's to hoping that, for '26, Smith can convince Cooper to take the reigns after his contract with TB is up at the end of the season.
