  1. Playing your 2 smallest D-Men at the same time against a big team (Carrier and Hutson)…The 5 D-men not named Arber average 188 lbs. Sounds like a recipe for prime high danger scoring chances against. No goalie can succeed with this scenario.

  2. Coach, how long is it going to take for management to realize Raymond is not the goaltending coach they need?
Will it take Raymond to ruin Fowler?
Just because he coached Shesterkin (so) in the ECHL is not a great endorsement !

  3. Good show coach… I was thinking that Oilers lost 9-1 the other night – they looked terrible… about as bad as the Habs have looked the past 2 games…
IMO – they have lost the idea that good solid teams have in winning consistently… The kids have forgot the philosophy of D first … I think everyone is getting caught up in padding up their stats … thinking like Nylander the other night just standing in the S zone watching the play and/or getting ready to exit D zone early…
Anyways – I won’t touch goaltending – only to say neither of them looked hungry … they don’t fight to see and stop the puck…
What do you think? Love your helpful insights

  4. What was that??! Jesus! They just gave up on defence. Totally. So many mistakes. Worse than college hockey 🙁 Someone needs to step up. Whats the point playing Suzuki when He Is not 100% fit. I am really curiouse about the changes what MSL will do.

  5. I think the Habs snap out of this. Team is not this bad in my opinion. They’re going to win against Boston and get back on track. The Habs have beat themselves these past 2 games.

  6. This feels like the first real adversity of this season, I’m actually excited to see how they respond vs the Bruins. We need to know how they react when they punched in the face.

  7. We started this game great. Energy and lots of shots. Valeno misses the damn net…could have been up 1-0 and gotten the monkey off his back. NOPE. Then we get a PP and yet again instead of capitalizing, our PP1 looks like it’s trying to pass the puck into the net. I don’t understand why a PP that’s struggling doesn’t shift tactics and simplify when things aren’t working. Screen goalie, physical play in front of net and some hard low shots. GET DIRTY! after that it was just downhill and not even worth talking about. Hope Newie gets better soon. Big opportunity for Bolduc to make his mark on the team. We will need him to step up now in a big way.

  8. Hey coach Kosta, what’s your honest opinion on how the Habs are being coached? What would you do differently if anything?

  9. Wait….. 7 goals in 18 shots? That's 1 in 3… Put Kosta Papoulias as the backup goalie, I bet he could do wayyy better than 1 in 3!!!! WTF … Fire Eric Raymond right away!!! That's unacceptable and alarming to say the least.

  10. Bullshit bullshit Marty, two small defensemen always are pushed around even with another bigger physical defensemen paired with em.Tou people aren't getting it, Marty should be coaching teenagers not NHLers

  11. Who is the coach coaching the defensemen, please don't tell me it's Marty whose only qualified to coach teenagers! These Stars are playing injured in that game, coaching coaching and l'll say it,bad coaching on Marty's part

  12. im here coach tell me what the habs do now? MSL could loose the boys totally i’ve played this game along time & coached sports along time. this is what happens when you dont have leadership.. tell me whats next ? do you want me to tell you whats gonna happen? your a smart guy , tell me whats gonna happen to this young team?

  13. i thought we totally outplayed them in the first till our non aggressive penalty kill back end, mathison wat 6 inches away from the puck & stayed in his lane as MSL wouldn’t call it. thats all it took to break this no leadership team ( one goal ) when dobes was hot those r the saves he was making with confidence. now the youngsters will have to score early and often to stay in games , the MSL can do his usual 1st intermission uninspired talk so the hab can go in there shell to preserve there lead & hope for OT at least so marty can be happy.. & i totally disagree with you mathison is our new savard but playing more minutes ( cant wait till we get rid of him ….. ) this team is better because we got rid of savard , armia, devorak.. next up mathison then get a player like crosby who we can hand the C to without hurting susuki’s feelings, & then we will have a leader on our team who the boys & marty can follow. sorry kosta im not frustrated i seen this trick many time with many teams i’ve played on or coached against.. thanks for your honest insights

  14. I thought Arber continued to look good. He’s looking much more polished.
And why was hardly anyone at the bumper? (Caufield)

  15. Yup. Not arguing. 🙁
Disastrous game. Newhook will be sorely missed. 🙁
Agree on Xhekaj – the team's best defense man at the moment. 👍
Next one against the Bruins highly interesting.
And…I kind of miss Patrik Laine – at least we would know there's an always present real weapon on the PP….and he wasn't doing too bad defensively either…hoping and praying for his return. 🙏

  16. What did I say yesterday about the word getting out that MSL’s finesse game can be beat by playing a more physical game? We only have Anderson, Slaf and Arber that can gain position physically.
    The word is out.
(and Dallas was faster than us last night)
This was a good loss. It may create a paradigm shift in Marty’s coaching.
(I hope they bring up little brother).

  17. Mr. Coach Talk…I am having trouble getting motivated to watch the after game vids i normally watch, but I make sure to take the medicine at some point. We also lost Newhook as the adult supervision on the rookie line, but also for the PK. :/ I would like to see the Bolduc-Dach-Demidov line some more, after a couple practices. It will be a test of our forward depth…We'll see what happens. Still a young team (with some pieces broken), still early in the season.

  18. Goes down too low too fast every shot.. idiot goaltending..make zero sense ..glove hand is slow position like a catchers mit in baseball..should be palm up more much faster……. i get pissed watching easy goals going in..it deflates the team !!

  19. Coach, you and I have both played goal but in different eras. In mine, goalies didn't wear masks (only later did some start in the late 60's). We both have a good inside feel for the goaltending position, from technique to inside our heads.

What I recount from my experience, ( & I am sure it's also happened to you) when you played organized hockey how the position is played inside the head.

Some call it, riding a hot streak, some call it, finding the sweet spot.

I call it breaking through the "eye of the hurricane storm".

If you play on a "not so good team" it feels like you are dealing with the furiously of a hurricane. Heavy rains obscure your view, heavy winds knock you over, confusion reigns, and everything is happening so fast. You don't have any time to compose yourself, you are simply fighting to survive.

But sometimes, the team, or you break through the hurricane right into the 'eye of the hurricane'.

When you are in the eye of the hurricane, the weather is sunny, there is a beautiful calm and life is easy. Everything in your mind seems to go by slowly, the measure of one second becomes 3 or 4.

There nothing to obscure your vision of the puck, and there is nothing that can make you lose your balance. It doesn't matter how fast a puck is coming at you, it seems to have marketedly been slowed down so you can adjust your position to be square to the puck and easily stop it from going in. Regardless of the number of deflections the puck hits on its way towards the net, Lady Luck pushes your body to somehow stop it from going in. No matter how good an opposing player is at stick-handling, in your mind, you are able to slow the puck's movement and stop it.

As a goaltender, you want to stay, in the eye of the hurricane.

Marty St. Louis dragged Dobes out of the 'eye of the hurricane' prematurely.

The entire history of the NHL tells the coach not to tamper with a 'hot goalie'.

You only pull him when he moves out of the 'eye of the hurricane' back into the fury & confusion of the savage hurricane.

Marty, let his arrogance show through. He committed a cardinal sin to destroy 'team building & confidence' by coming out and publicly name Monty as the team's number one goalie despite all evidence that Monty had near the very worst numbers of the goaltenders in the entire NHL while Dobes had near the top of the NHL in the same time.

Another thing, for some unknown reason, Marty refuses to call a time-out, after the players have been scored on (running around like chickens without their heads) once, twice or three times in a short period of time.

Another thing, when the game is out of reach like a team like LA or Dallas have completely overwhelmed Montreal, why doesn't Marty pull the goalie that started (not to embarrass him further) and put in the back-up goalie to give him real-game experience in order to prepare for the upcoming game.

This way, the goalie can shake of any rust, sync his movements & positioning to this stronger competition to prepare for the next strong team coming next.

Marty seems to prefer to hang out a goalie to dry, tear their confidence apart and then put as much pressure as humanly possible on the goaltender who will be in nets for the next game…..throwing him in cold, like Christians were thrown to the lions in the Roman Coliseum 2,000 years ago.

The last thing, Marty doesn't seem to know how to break down the game tactically, in the same way as you do on your YouTube channel, Coach.

The other night, pulling a goalie with 5 minutes to go ????? (that's a clown show)

Marty needs help and the G.M. needs to recognize it.

  20. Newhook's injury looks rough, Should take all the time he needs to heal fully. Lower fractures -especially a few poorly perfused bones–need time to heal well. He probably took a high ankle sprain/tear along with the break. He needs to recover and rehab very deliberately and not rush back. Nick is dragging. I don't have clincal information, but eyetest tell me he needs assistance in rehabbing with all the time he needs. Nick seems to need enough recovery time off -ice) from the eye test – I don't know the injury.
