When NHL Fans Think You’re A ‘Bust’

Connor Bedard’s 2nd season in the NHL raised some questions surrounding the ‘Generational’ tag he was given coming into the league. In this video, we take a deep dive into his game in year 3 and how he’s proving everyone wrong.

  1. Connor Bernard's problem is not his skills, it's his attitude. He stands on the ice with contempt for everybody. Because of this people will want to see him fail. And when he does, which everybody does at times, they will cheer. I hope he changes his attitude. Because he does have the potential to be the best.

  2. He’s improving, as expected. The team is better, which makes it an even better situation for him. As a Hawks fan, I’m just excited to know the game isn’t already over down 3-0 after the first. Last few seasons have been ROUGH. Its great to watch competitive hockey again.

  3. The only major question mark I had for him the first few years was his attitude. It was hard to tell if he was just upset because he hated losing, or if he was pouting and not being a good teammate while they were losing. It was also unclear if his weak defense was attitude/effort-related or if it was simply learning pains. So far this season, it looks like those questions have been answered and he looks both more like a leader and complete player.

  4. Cant wait for canada to show the world who king of hockey is this coming olympics, not that we gonna win for sure but more about how entertaining and incredible our country is at this game, we are brazil of the hockey world, which means not playing just to win with shitty tactics like greece in euro 2004 or new jersey devils with their shitty way of dulling the game around the same year 2004, its a sad way of playing the game, brazil played soccer like its supposed to be, fun , entertaining, showcasing incredible skills and putting on a show, thats why brazil and pele are so special and will always be the goat of soccer, played with style and won championships, balls out, no tactics, no tampering with other teams, no houston astro shit, no steriods, no referee fixing just pure sport, and thats why canada for me is the brazil of hockey, true champs, along side the Russians, any gold medal wom without russia in the competition doesnt count , so hopefully russia can be in this tourney, even tho russia owns canada sometimes its still better to win when they play.

  5. He's not the only young athlete in town with a 'generational' label that some fools were prematurely trying to call a bust. It's like if they don't turn a team around and make the playoffs or championship in the first year, the hot take media is quick to drop the B word on them when the fact of the matter is that there are many more moving parts to being a great team than having a phenom.

  6. I had someone just about have a conniption fit in the comments of the "Have we been lied to" video because I dared bring up Nathan MacKinnon's slow career start as a comparison. All I was saying was that it was too early to tell if Bedard was a bust or going to breakout as he grew and as his team improved – not even that Bedard was 100% guaranteed to be the next MacKinnon or Ovechkin.

However, the proof is in the pudding. Bedard is sitting in a 5 way tie for 3rd in points and the Blackhawks are sitting in a 2 way tie for 5th in points (with 2 fewer games than the tying Oilers). He still won't be old enough to drink in the US by the end of this season and might be old enough by the time the Stanley Cup is won – it was won on his birthday this year.

It would actually be legendary to win the cup on your 21st birthday for your first legal drink in the US… but I don't see it being the Hawks year.

  7. couple more broccoli's and that defense will sort right out.
*additionally, both bedard and celebrini are sporting some pretty nasty wings. You love to see it. Wouldn't mind an evaluation on the state of wings league wide.

  8. Great video (as usual) I didn't think he was a bust. Maybe saying anyone is the next Sid or McDavid is incredibly unfair (it is). The main thing he has this year as opposed to previous years is help out there. Quite a few of these Blackhawks would be welcomed on other squads.

  9. Chicago is still going through a rework of the team, they coming off the first new aged dynasty team (yes I get it, over 10 years ago) but bedard wasn’t on the team right after the team fall apart, he’s been on the team with old guys, who yes are great in the postseason bc they have years of doing it but they need to get to the postseason first, I know it’s the start of the year and there’s still like 60 games to be played but man, watching this young team play is honestly so much fun, I don’t think there a playoff team yet, they might get a wildcard or a bottom seed but I don’t think they will get past round one, but to say they won’t in 4-5 years is crazy, all these young guys are gunna get some time and then the newer guys and trades will happen and make the team (I hope) stronger, I think this team has potential, the defence needs a little work, offensive is great and the goalies ugh, Spencer knight is a work of art in net honestly (thank you Florida for not giving him a chance and running Sergei into the ground)

  10. I'm glad he's going off now, because there is a real danger when a young player hears negativity for too long.

  11. 09:14 what decides face offs in NHL? Do the teams decide themselves? Is it random? New player each time like in a round robin? Reason for asking is, I imagine if they could pick themselves, he wouldnt be doing them if his last season stat was at measly 1/3 of the faceoffs as wins? Tbf, I dont know exactly HOW important winning faceoffs are, but I imagine they are at least somewhat important and can create potential chances right off the bat (or i guess stick, lol)
