San Jose Sharks’ Yaroslav Askarov CRUSHES Early Season Doubts—Can He STAY Elite?

San Jose Sharks fans have a new reason for hope—Yaroslav Askarov is surging into NHL elite status, posting stellar numbers and stealing games as the team’s anchor in net. Can his breakout performance spark the Sharks’ turnaround, or will offensive woes keep holding the team back? Recent struggles to generate shots and secondary scoring threaten San Jose’s progress, even as Askrov’s heroics mask deeper issues.

JD Young spotlights the Sharks’ offensive slump, the need for more contributors beyond Macklin Celebrini, and questions the current power play setup with Orlov and Klingberg. Special teams are trending in opposite directions: the penalty kill is hitting its stride, while the power play urgently needs a reset. With injuries mounting and the season’s pressures rising, the Sharks’ path to consistency is anything but certain. Will coaching adjustments and evolving roles be enough to push this rebuild forward?

  1. also kinda hilarious that the guy the Pred's dumped asky for is tied for 32nd in the league in save percentage atm lol

  2. I’ve been using the hashtag #AskTheWall to increase the attention to Askarov’s elite performance the last couple weeks since Celebrini has been given nearly all the attention (that he DOES deserve). Once Asker gets his first shutout, this hashtag and praise is going to get even more traffic online. LETS GO ASKER!

  3. Nice podcast and yes Asky is an elite prospect, but before I would say he is an elite NHL goaltender I need more data. He was not as bad as everyone thought in the beginning of the season and he is not as good as everyone is now saying with his current hot streak.

Both reactions are over reactions but his history says that he will eventually be very good to elite once he is fully developed. He is only 23 after all and this his first season starting on an NHL team and playing full time.

Like fans over reaction on their latest winning streak, patience is needed. In the end, Asky should be elite. He will still struggle at times. Let's hope the reactions will not be he is a bust.
