I am very sorry for Alex Newhook but since MSL can be stubborn, it was the only way to see Demidov playing with Dach and Bolduc… I hope Newhook recover soon and wish him the best.
I am starting to think we need some veteran coaching to help support st-louis with changes and line management to help him grow. The fact that the 2nd period is often where everything goes to shit to me shows that we might be getting outcoached for the changes on the wrong side? And I also find myself questioning what players are on the ice in key moments. Clearly everything is not only St-Louis's fault but I think if we could help him out in the aspect it could help improve our game. The other thing is we are looking completely lost again in our own zone and I don't know what changed but looking at the screenshot of the diamond formation it might be because we are already focused on the counter attack before we even get the puck back?
its what they do every year in montreal they start with a vengence for 10,15 games then all hell braeks loss every year its the same first like i said millions of time we need size we get pushed around as soon as we meet a team of bigger guys and thats not a playoff team not strong enough yet they still need players with heart not just guys to whatch the game and all those bigger teams have to do is keep the pucks on the banks not in the center and montreal can,t do anything not strong enough along the banks and some players are very lazy and only show up once in a while and like i said its always the same thing they start really good everybody says how unbeatable they are but after 10,to 15 games they can,t play hockey anymore we really need more heart and size all these small players get pushed off the puck very easily. And now the sheriff is not aloud to fight anymore the players are not scared of him at all this is not a really good team its just an avrage team like we,ve had for 20 years
No one concerned that Demidov has slipped in the Calder? No one asked about why CC’s cold the last 3 games? No one concern about the 3rd and 4th lines return to ineptness? No one comparing last seasons time line of loss streak and this seasons loss streak(which will be decided in the next 6 games)? No one concerned why Struble minutes were reduced by near 5 minutes after his first fight? BTW torts method of coaching is alive and well in the NHL.
Marco, get Slaf to shorten his stick. 🙂
Ok. Maybe a silly take but scoring is not the Habs issue! Seriously, up until the last 2 games the Habs were top 5 in scoring and it wasn't only the first line doing it. A week ago we were talking how Demidov & Kapanen are at the top rookie scoring and even Dach had 4 goals in 3 games. Losing Newhook changes that a bit maybe but my point is that focusing on finding players that can score will miss the point, this team SUCKS on team defense. Replacing Newhook with anyone isn't going to change that. So I'd look to replace Newhook with a similar offensive player (Roy, Farrell, Davidson) and bring up Florian to replace Veleno, move Demidov to the Dach line. But most importantly MSL needs to teach this team what DEFENSE is. Defense is hard work, far harder than offense to play, until this team puts in the effort to focus on defense it won't get to the next level.
Same game against 'heavy' structured teams as wide open inferior teams just doesn't work. St Louis is an excellent motivator, but a weak on-ice manager. He's never learned that part of coaching – never had a top mentor. And, he's stubborn, which in some cases is good – not in this one.
That Seguin goal was on Slaf and Carrier not Anderson Slaf decided to change instead of backing up Hutson Anderson just got on the ice…
Hopefully, Newhook didn't tear his Achilles tendon, which can be a career-ending injury. 😮
Just a thought, when you are playing a big fast team maybe you shouldn’t pair the two smallest defencemen in the league together…
Its a bit tough analyzing goals from a single still because you miss the context, on the first goal Gallagher had bubbled out to take away a potential pass for the half-board shot, the 2 players on the left don't compensate at all (e.g. no movement) and Gallagher couldn't get back to his position, on the 2nd goal you can wonder why Gally was up near the d-man but he was clearly trying to take space away from the d-man who had a lot of it prior to the still shown, Bolduc didn't move at all potentially fearing a backdoor pass, even so he could have moved up to guard 2 players. The 3rd goal was ALL Carrier, you can't blame Anderson as he was just getting on from Slafs change. Carrier unfathomably played on the blue line when Hutson took the puck deep AND stayed there even when it was clear Dallas would win the puck, if it had been Struble he'd have dropped out of the zone. Clearly Carrier thinks too much of his own skill or just has lost all sense of how to play D…we know this as he contributed to the 4th goal as well, though in reality that's mostly Kapanen, he fails to get the puck deep then DOGS it coming back, even so Carrier again inexplicably decides to try to cut off the play at center ice with a seriously half-hearted attempt, PERHAPS we can suggest he saw Kapanen coming back and thought he'd be covered but even so it was a very weak attempt, if your going to make that play COMMIT to it!
Long story short every goal comes down to the team playing weak, not moving their feet, dogging it and making some poor decisions.
If Marty hasn't read them the riot act yet than its about time he does. You don't win on talent you win on effort, moving your feet, committing to a play even if it does turn out to be the wrong one. Though I have to start wondering what Marty is thinking when he puts Veleno out on the 2nd PP..seriously? its hard to believe this guy was a 1st round pick and had any scoring touch at all, instead of getting off quick shots he cradles the puck and by the time he shoots the goalies in position. This isn't Marco's weekend beer league team, its the NHL. GO HABS!
2-0 when Newhook leaves the ice with 5 minutes gone in the 2nd.
Suzuki seen still limping. Shouldn't he be on day to day?
Davidson up. Florian up. Focus on keeping healthy short term.
D'Amico is spot on with these flaws. The powerplay goal was a shot within the diamond which is the slot (where many goals are scored from) and failed to make the bumper player's time there difficult. Bolduc playing too close to Dobes not only screens the goalie more, 2 Stars forwards totally wide open. Carrier has issues adapting quickly to situations (still recalled when he clipped Monty's stick and he was vulnerable to a shot). Man to man, have to get in front of the opposing player to get inside or you're screwed. Being in the right position in the slot to guard (between the dots or lower) quite important. A lot of supposed idiot fans forgot how Dobes took the NJ game and possibly rattled him (a game he had to forgot about). A goalie cannot ponder on a game like that. Habs' defensive lapses were there for the past several games and they were luckier on the earlier ones to recover and not so lately. I find it weird when the Habs have Slaf playing outside of the front of the net during a powerplay. He is not as effective to the right of the net.
Hearing Newhook out 4 months broken ankle Guhle out another 8 to 10 weeks surgery today torn abductor
Has MSL reached his level of incompetence? Unable to make in game adjustments and call time outs at critical junctures of the game.
37:33 "But I'm not in the room, I don't know…" More Habs fans should probably adopt this mode of thought.
