Steve Dangle, Adam Wylde and Jesse Blake discuss the current state of the Edmonton Oilers goalie tandem and whether or not they believe it is a major problem that could hinder their success this season. They also evaluate the comments made by the Oilers Head coach when he was asked about it.

Yes, next question.
Well, this season it's not any worse than Torontos goaltending.
Next to St Louis, Toronto has the 2nd worse GAA in the league and their Save Percentage is only minimally better than Edmonton's.
You know the old saying…People who live in glass houses
So Trent Frederic is just a 3rd liner at best, you can expect him to do much better than 1 point but, he's not a game breaker…
I don’t understand the blind spot that people have with the Oilers! 1st their goaltending is no where near good enough, 2nd has anyone actually looked at their D core , before the start of the year (official hockey people) said they had 1 of the top D cores in the NHL, SERIOUSLY? Nurse and Bouchard 20 millions/season really? Those 2 guys are bad defensively and can barely get out of their zone! Am I the only one that sees highlights where the other team scores directly from a bad pass from one of those 2 directly on their stick? The Oilers got to the finals for 2 years dispute those 2 huge problems and this year because you had to pay Bouchard , you could keep your offensive depth , and you wonder why they’re bad? I saw the highlights of yesterday’s game (CLB) and WOW the goals are mostly from breakdowns not the other team making a great play ! The inconsistency they show in the regular season usually shows up at some point in the playoffs and that when 97 and 29 can’t keep pulling them forward and they lose! PS the GM got that team in Chicago handed to him when they were already built , then after he lucked out and got a pretty good goalie go look at his career stats , all he had to do was manage it and not make any major mistakes! If his last name wasn’t what it is would even have gotten a shot at being the GM of that team?
Walman has been the Oilers best D-man this year by a country mile.
The oilers would’ve won a cup (and I’d argue 2 of the last 3) if they had even a top 50 goalie the last few years
Am I just having deja vu or have you guys posted a video with this same title like 3 times this year already?
To be honest, we have not had what I would consider a very good goalie since friggin CuJo. Roloson was good, but just got on a hot streak. That is a LONG time to only have sub-par goalies.
Leaf fans crapping on Oilers goaltending is some outstanding lack of awareness when their own goaltenders are so awful
How can they afford a top quality goalie
Lol slow day, huh boys?
Using Crawford and osgood as analogys, is a perfect example of either itd all because of the goalie, or ALL because of the goalie. That's why us netminders hate yall lol
For 3 years they have had goal tending problems
For what it's worth, a LOT of Hawk fans, (myself included), have always known Crow was not elite nor solidly great. He was borderline in that, but you had HOFers in front of you as D-men, (2 as of writing and probably three or four), and the rest of the team. So he looked way better.
Save % is not all on the goalie.
Not all shots are the same. That’s why “xgoals” has been developed.
Yes.
You’re welcome.
Who? Who do you get? How? What do you do to get him? Dont be dumb. There isn't anyone out there willing to make the move to help the oilers get the goalie that wins them a cup. Duh they want a goalie. This take is dumb.
Have for a decade, massive news
Guys, why did you upload this video from 2̶0̶2̶4̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶2̶3̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶2̶2̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶2̶1̶.̶.̶.̶.̶ ?
4:22 Coach Knoblauch has either appeared quite sanguine after losses by the Oilers or hasn’t really figured out how to answer questions from the media. There’s no doubt how Craig Berube felt after the Leafs had lost both of their previous two games in regulation.
well said …
When your blue line is Nurse and an aloof Bouchard – that’s gonna be rough. And trust me I remember seeing that abomination that was the Burns Ferraro pairing in San Jose burn my soul to the depths of Tartarus.
Yes and lack of depth too they're fucked
Skinner wouldn't even be the starting goaltender for the northwest territories
Everyone who says "trade the backup" is an idiot. Changing Pickard out for someone else changes Nothing. Zero. The problem is the starter. Skinner is too inconsistent to be a starter in a pressure market. Connor Ingram is unplayable, and the Oilers don't beat LA without Pickard. Ridiculous.
Dumb question…the Oiler goalies couldn't crack the lineup on an elite Girl Guide ringette team.
Goaltending is not the reason for the Oilers slow start, the top players on the team have not played well to start the year, just like the last 2 seasons. Goaltending is however the reason they lost the last 2 cups. So an upgrade is needed. BTW Knoblach takes a 3 second pause before he answers most questions. So I wouldn't read anything into that.
Prior to last nights game bobrovsky had worse stats than skinner this year. Skinner also had better numbers than bob for the 2023-2024 cup finals. Bob makes 5x the money. There are no guarantees in goaltending and after still paying for campbell, the oilers are understandably hesitant to reade away key pieces to obtain and make cap space for a different goaltender.
You mean still
Expected goals is always lower than actual goals.
I remember when the Montreal Canadiens drafted Zachary Fucale (the best goaltender from the experts that year), the Edmonton Oilers were not happy. I remember saying to myself 'Of course, Edmonton has a goalie problem and wants to get a good goalie'… and it was in 2013 and since then, the goalie issue is not resolved yet.
Dont even need to watch the video to answer that. Yes
(But I still will watch ❤️)
leaf fans talking about goaltending right now? both of your goalies stink!
There’s an excellent example of the injury bet on the Oilers. The Devils let Curtis Lazar walk after his $1 mil / yr expired, coming off a nagging knee injury. Everyone liked him, but they clearly didn’t like what the medical staff was saying. He signed for $750 in Edmonton, and the Devils picked up Glendening on a PTO (and he has been really good, in fairness). But the Oilers took that Lazar bet where the Devils didn’t, and he has one point (a garbage time goal) in only 5 games started for Edmonton, where they probably wanted him to lock down 4c, or a 4th line winger spot.
We love Paul Cotter. He got write-in votes for President in Jersey last November.
If Canada had 4 Olympic teams…is the best skinner line EVER lol.
They should go after UPL
short answer: yes
