What’s Happening With Kirill Kaprizov’s Contract? | 32 Thoughts

If Kaprizov doesn’t sign with Minnesota, and then goes and signs for 6×20 next July 1(because the 8/7 turns to 7/6 for the next year) wouldn’t that be tampering? Like if the Leafs pulled that bs with Marner talking to teammates about what Vegas was like to live and turn that into a tampering charge….
I find it very odd that a player with as much injury history as he does would not jump at an opportunity like that, 16 would probably keep him in the top 10 for most of his contract.. even with the cap rising… I guess we shall see if GMs are smart enough to go Zitos route over Dubas’ idea of paying three or four players very well, and then have to work on the fringes to add depth….
It would be a dream to have him in Seattle and before everyone bursts my bubble I said “dream!”
Kaprizov sounds like he wants to move on from Minnesota. But teams like Florida, Tampa Bay, and even Toronto may not want to get near the number Kaprizov wants.
Marner had 1 foot out the door during the 4 Nations Tournament and that’s fact. Maybe earlier. Kaprizov is pulling the same play in a sense. Russian players have this air about them that they are always worth more ala Panarin. It makes me, as a fan, quite sick.
I don't blame Kirill if he wants out. Minnesota is more than a piece away from legitimate Cup contention.
With the salary cap leaping, each year, these huggge contracts players ate now garnering, are making ticket prices go through the roof. Here in Utah, Mammoth single game tickets, even agsinst teams like Buffalo, San Jose, Seattle are selling for $150 in nose bleeds. The avg fan who cannot afford season tickets, are being bludgeoned.
It is possible that term will end up being the issue. Remember last contract Kaprisov bet on himself. He turned down 8 years at 9 and settled on 5 at 9 leaving 27 million guaranteed. If he signs at 16 he will have earned himself an extra 21 million. If he signs for 16 for 3 to 5 years and then signs for 20 or more as the cap goes up he will make at least an extra 4 million for every year between the length of that contract and the eighth year.
They should offer him a no show job.
Sounds like chapter 4 of the Parise/Suter/Vanek story in Minnesota.
The classic case of a player worth more in one market than another is John Tavares. Definitely worth $11M on the Islanders but not for the Leafs. With Tavares the Islanders might have won a Stanley Cup. They were close enough that Tavares could have made the difference. He hasn't even been remotely close in Toronto.
The raccoon stuff was stupid and the music is too loud and adds nothing. Do better!
@12:20 Elliot… you of all people should know that the worst thing you can mention to Minnesota fans is moving…
Kyle is right! PUMA is a German brand. P OU MA. Not even PI OU MA.
I think last season Minnesota ownership said they'd do whatever it takes to sign Kaprisov and thats not a very good bargaining move. If mathews is highest current contract at 12.75 or whatever they should have offered him 14. maybe the counter would have been 16 x8. and got it done? im a fan of his game but he has not won a cup, gets hur,t and is small. the cap is rising but I don't think he's worth more than 16 although I see Elliotte's point about 'relative value'
