Was the Detroit Red Wings road trip good enough? What stood out, and what still needs improving

The Detroit Red Wings return home from their road trip 3-2. Which by all accounts is a good trip, but is it good enough? Some players got hot, like Raymond, DeBrincat and Seider, while others continued struggle. #LGRW

  1. So encouraging that the penalty kill is where it's at after last season. It shows the team has the capactity to identify an issue and actually fix it.

  2. Montreal has to play all the teams we've had to play over the next two weeks. Our schedule is a tad easier . We should be able to make up some ground. LGRW'S

  3. Regarding ASP. He gets a few seconds on pp2. We loose faceoffs. He plays man-to-man in d-zone as instructed. Many D’s are not playing as told defensively.

  4. Like I've said before, the Wings need to lead with Pelikka, hopefully soon, on the power play, as Seider does not have the finesse, nor the skills, to quarterback the power play from the blue line. Now, if the Wings were to give Pelikka a lead role and Seider is used as a flank or backup on the same line, I would be ok with that. But to have Seider to be the lead to run the power play is a big mistake. Also, the Wings need to stop tossing the puck into the opposing zone unless they're icing it to get a breather. With respect to tossing the puck into the opposing zone, I'm of the opinion that why bother possessing the puck if you're gonna give possession back to the opponent. This back and forth possession of the puck will worsen your scoring chances. In other words, it's a waste of time unless you can retake possession of the puck AFTER you dump it into your opponent's zone.

  5. What's going on with Patrick Kane being out for an eternity?I love him on the Wings, but he slammed into the boards just before going on the Injured List. He was still seen on the ice congratulating Larkin after that OT goal against Tampa, so what's up with this so-called injury he's got? Just how bad could this injury be? Is he serious about coming back to play for the Wings, or is he more concerned about preparing to make the hockey team for the Olympics? Which is it? It's common knowledge that he's close to the end of his career given his age, but he's still on rhe payroll and the Wings need his skills on the ice with the power play. So what's the Wings organization doing about Kane and this so-called injury he has? He's not helping the Wings being on the Injured List if he can play. Realizing that he's older is understandable to recover from an injury, but all he did was slide into the boards. He was still conscious after that happened. Just how bad is this injury, or is he sandbagging and stalling in preparation for the Olympics if he qualifies to be on Team USA? Not a happy camper that he's already been out this long (just for slipping and sliding into the boards without provocation any of the Tampa players. In other words, he did it himself without any intervention from a Tampa player. Come on already, Kane. Just how hurt can he be?

  6. Podcaster Brian Fisher thinks that all Seider needs to do is be a great defender on the ice. Wrong again. The Wings have placed Seider in a pivotal role to run the power play on the first line. If he can't play offense, he shouldn't be running the power play. You can't defend and win if your team is behind in goals when you are noted for not playing offense. Realize he's a defenseman, but if the Wings need offense, his defensive skills won't be able to accomplish that. Get with the program, Fisher. It's a wrong approach for the team. Seider needs to be much more well rounded as an offensive defenseman to help the Wings win. Defensive skills are important, but you still need to put the puck in the back of the net to get wins…..

  7. I am not agreeing on Syder Edwinsson beeing so great. Syder yes. Edvinsson not.

Edvinsson is guilty of a lot of unnecessary icings. Easy to blame Pellikka being bullied he is not giving away bad icings.

  8. I feel bad that most of the kids on the team couldn’t even get into a Casino in Vegas.. 💯

  9. Was interesting listening to this right after listening to the latest WWP episode in regards to the rookies, because they seemed to have the opposite thoughts on ASP (mainly positive and that he was starting to settle in).

You guys brought the stats in and they didn't, but they go more on experience and eye test… idk. Was interesting to hear opposite perspectives on the subject.

  10. Not good enough to make me believe theyre different not bad enough to make me believe theyre the same. Its too early still. I liked the effort in every game minus the ducks game but we only took 3 out of 5.

  11. Even getting outshot on this trip they still are even with 386 shot for and 386 against this season which is key for this team, because it means they're playing the right way. The goals will start to come for guys who are not scoring but getting shots.

  12. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. They are playing very average hockey so far this season. Talbot's steal against Toronto and that wacky ending in LA go the other way and we are 7-7. They struggle to break 30 shots on goal, their defensive play is still shaky half the time, and 5 on 5 offense still feels pretty lacking. There's just not much structure, in my eyes. The effort was good against Vegas, but effort doesn't cover up an inability to deal with a forecheck or get creative in the offensive zone.
