I don't think Crosby makes Montreal , without a doubt, a cup contender. For that reason I wouldn't pay the kind price you guys have mentioned, not for a player at that age.
For me Hage is an untouchable , I would offer 2 first rounders ,Beck and Engstrom
Hage for Crosby is rediculous. Crosby has what 3 yrs left? Hage is like 20. I love Crosby but that would be dumb

Ok so after you trade Hage, and In the years Crosby retired, you still have a big hole at 2C
You can’t trade Hage for a stop gap even if it’s Crosby! Unless it’s for a young 2C like Mctavish who you’d have for many years. Hughes won’t do it for a short term stop gap even if it’s for Crosby . Give them Beck and Kapanen

Demidov and Laine will power the line. Dach just has to be average and he will have a career year. Otherwise put Bolduc on important faceoffs he is better than Suzuki

Re/ the centre ice logo, I think both Vegas and Florida did something similar in recent seasons.

I think they believe in their coaching and player development and believe that one of Dach, Newhook, Kapanen, Beck, Veleno, FloJack, etc. have the skill and drive to take that spot. If it was say McTavish or Byfield or Beniers that was available? Different, but as of right now they believe in house is the best way. It’s also the way with the most upside because we would then have all the rest of them as possible assets for another move.
Habs should pay a big price otherwise than giving high prospects like Hage. They should offer Dach, Matheson, 2027 1st & 2026 2nd round picks to Pittsburgh for Sidney Crosby. With Dach's & Matheson's cap hits, Pittsburgh could still be above the cap floor, get free to sell their veterans players & tank for McKenna.
It could be a win win situation for both teams. Montreal gets Crosby & Pittsburgh will have the leverage enough to sell Letang, Karlsson & Malkin by not flirting with cap floor. Matheson will cover the loss of Letang & Karlsson plus they could also be more patient with Dach who is very talented but quite unlucky with all his injuries. Put him in LTIR & properly wait for his full recovery, this season is a tanking one for them anyways.
If Pittsburgh refuses just add a good prospect like Beck or Kapanen.
They can give up a lot for Crosby. But not high level prospects like Michael Hage…
Pavel Zacha would be a great fit. He checks off all the boxes in what they are looking for. He's only 28 at a cap hit of only 4.75 million. He's big at 6'4 210lbs. Big, strong gritty center with some physicality to his game. He is one of the best two way centers and penalty killers in the league. He's very responsible in his own end so he can insulate Laine and Demidov. He can also give you 20+ goals and 50pts to 60pts
Don't know why people are so willing to be like Bergevin and trade the entire farm for a 39year old player for 2 years. Glad these 4 are not the GM.

Luca got heart, I say no to hage. Let him live his dream. With or without Crosby Habs have a bright future. If a beck or kapanen with a first rounder would be enough that would be my limit. If it doesn't come to fruition, enjoy your retirement crosby! ✌🏻
