If Vibes Could Win You a Stanley Cup

The Montreal Canadiens were supposed to be rebuilding, but something has changed. From Caufield’s clutch goals to Hutson and Dobson transforming the blue line, this team suddenly looks dangerous. With Marty St. Louis leading the charge, could the Habs actually be contenders again? Watch how Montreal went from rebuild to resurgence.

  1. The Habs are going to be a force for the foreseeable future. Barring major injuries they'll definitely be in the playoffs this year.

  2. About Slafkovsky:
His job is to go in the corners and in front of the net, which he does without hesitation.
Points are a bonus, but his role is basically that of a Tom Wilson or something. 50-60 points is absolutely fine, as he allows Suzuki and Caufield to do their thing.

  3. I'm a "veteran" Habs fan, been watching them since the late 70's. I must admit, this team reminds me a lot of the 1986 team. That was a team that was not supposed to win the Cup, but they had a really solid base, a group of really good, young defensemen and an interesting mix of forwards. The two parallels that I can't make are for Patrick Roy and Claude Lemieux. Could Dobes be that guy in the playoffs? Maybe…but which forward could possibly score a bunch of critical goals in the post season like Lemieux did? Caufield could, but he's not the same kind of player. Either way, this team has huge potential!

  4. Imagine how much better Canadiens can be at next season when they get rid off that horrible 8,7m$ aav fourth-liner…

  5. In addition, their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket went to the AHL conference finals and their ECHL won the Kelly Cup.
The whole franchise in their 3 respective leagues are pushing great.
If injuries happen in MTL, they have backup in Laval. (I know an AHLer is not an NHLer, but I just wanted to show the deepness of their talent in their respective league)

  6. Can't wait until our goalie tandem becomes Fowler and Dobes. We'll finally be set to contend in a few years.
Slafkovsky has a ''slow start'' in terms of points, but advanced metrics show he's doing everything else really well. Creating space for Suzuki and Caufield, winning puck battles along the boards, it's only a matter of time. He directly created two goals with his forecheck and got robbed of a goal against Chicago. We wouldn't be talking about a slow start.
Hage is averaging 2PPG in the NCAA, I can't wait to see him play with Demidov and Bolduc. My boy Zach is getting shafted, playing with Veleno and Dach, as much as I like the effort they've been putting in. He's too talented to play on a line with them.
Everything seems to come along really well, the only question mark is wether Reinbacher will be able to develop into the player they think he can become, injuries are really taking a toll on his development.
Also, let's hope Guhle can stay healthy for a full season eventually, we realize the stability he normally brings when he's injured, our D zone is more open when he's not there.

Anyways, vibes are currently immaculate, can't wait for the future, this team is going to be gooooood.

  7. Love my Habs, they are by far the most EXCITING team to watch right now. I am really hoping Dobes becomes our starter, i love Monte but Dobes is coming up and he will be our franchise goalie and i would rather him grow with the team as they develop than continue with Monte as the starter. Dobes has been phenomenal in the games he has played. Hell he like 20 games under his belt total and already showed such promise, let him take the net and when the days he is down and out Monte can jump in.

  8. It might get them a cup the boys are having fun playing hockey and big names are taking pay cuts to play there it is how you win

  9. It might not show up on the scoresheet, but Slaf is definitely playing better compared to 1 year ago. He's always winning his board battles and is more mobile, which creates even more space for his teammates.
Laine should be out for ~3 months btw, he got surgery.

  10. Never really liked the Habs, but this version of them is exciting and I'm cheering for them. Laine is out 3-4 months now btw.

  11. I don't know why everyone said that they would regress, after how well they finished last year I had them winning the atlantic this year.

  12. How come there were no Complaints about referees, By Canadian Fans when they got 10 penality call against Blackhawks to there 2 oh sorry forgot those 2 late calls 4

  13. Everyone in Québec is reaaaally excited about this team. I'm 24 and started watching hockey in 2014. The only exciting player we had was PK Subban. The constant problem was the lack of offensive talent. Now for the first time in my life I can see what is it to have multiple offensive talent on the team. The missing piece is only a 2nd line centre, which I'm confident we'll figure out, Hage is having a great season so far in Michigan.

  14. As an Oiler fan, Montreal is definitely the most fun Canadian team to watch right now. They've got something special going.

  15. Could you imagine a team like that in front of a healthy Carey Price? Lord in Heaven, the destruction we’d wreck across the league!
