Okay I MIGHT be hyping it up too much but MAN this Dobson trade is looking great for both teams!
Let me know, what are YOUR thoughts on the trade so far? And which team do YOU think comes out on top in the end? #GravGang
Well, it's way too early in the game to assess this transaction. Initially, I thought the Habs actually underpaid for Dobson who is entering his prime. On the other hand, I would not have done this trade from the Habs perspective since I also thought we needed to keep our two 1st round picks as there's huge question marks around Kaiden Guhle and David Reinbacher's ability to stay healthy. I think that we were missing a few prospects in the pipeline as I'm not a big fan of cutting corners on a rebuild. At the end of the day, it will boils down to this: whether Dobson keeps improving and reaches his ceiling and whether Eklund and Aitcheson pan out as the Islanders expect. Until we know the answer to these questions, this is way too early to make a judgment on the trade.
Everyone won on this trade. Dobson went somewhere where he can reignite his vast potential. Isles got a goalscorer, and two great prospects, where Schaefer and Aitcheson could be the future top pairing. And a tenacious Eklund. Schaefer has made the transition from Dobson feel like an upgrade for Isles, and don't have the cap space for someone like Dobson. Don't know a single Isle fan that isn't over the moon. And I think Habs are over the moon as well.
Heineman could get 25-30 goals this season. Playing really well with Horvat and Drouin. As far as Eklund and Aitchenson to early to project . Schaefer though man what a player he is. Not only his offense his defense especially with his stick use is really good.
Absolutely a great trade for both teams. It was so hard to see Heineman leave since he filled a Lehkonen sized hole in my heart. But Dobson has completely reshaped our top-4, revived Matheson and is a massive upgrade over Savard.
The issue with Dobson is that he had just one good season and it became a thing the hockey community hung their hat on. Dobson is not the 10 mil player people think he is. The isles would have won the trade with only one 1st round pick coming back but they got two AND Heineman who is on fire. I hope Dobson does well but seeing him every game with the isles, I know what he is.
Hated giving up Heineman, but happy he’s producing.
I remember the comments that day of trade. Hab fans were asking thoughts and sharing theirs on Emil. I had said if you pair Dobson right he will be a very gd addition. Isles never really did. I was told how much they liked Emil despite the accident. I appreciated the input as they also did when we got Romanov. I think we were both correct here. Gd trade for both teams so far. Wish Dobson success.
Islanders pro scouting gets an A+ here. Trade for a 4th liner recognizing he can be a top line player.
lol it’s been 4 games since
Dobson displayed a notable lack of compete while under pressure on the island and was pretty useless when the game turned more gritty (as it does deeper into the playoffs.) IF Dobson reverts back to those soft tendencies in MTL (and I do believe we’ll have the opportunity to test this pretty well, as it seems clear the Habs are going places), MTL will turn on him given his big price tag and find themselves as frustrated as isles fans often were.
Likewise, if Heineman’s outstanding performance tapers off as the season progresses (although hopefully he’ll avoid traffic in the future 😬), or if Eklund and/or Aitcheson bust, isles fans will find themselves sorely missing the Dobber in spite of his shortcomings, as top pairing offensively gifted RHD men are hard to come by.
Remains to be seen, however.
Montreal won. They have 26 Stanley Cups, a couple already with Dobson, and my predictive algorithm for the next several seasons indicates they will win 3 more and that Dobson will win at least 1 Conn Smythe.
Habs came away with the best player in terms of immediate impact. Islanders came away with 3 quality assets all of whom could possibly be better.
Heinemen wasn't just a throw in, he's legit. I didn't want to see him leave.
But Dobson has had a massive impact for the better on the Habs. I wouldn't undo the trade today, ask me in 5 years.
Dobbers is an 8 mil dman..I watched almost every game as an islander.. He will leave you vulnerable when it matters..mtl lost this trade bad
it was an expedited Habs deal…Isles will win big…as Heinemen is a 1st line gritty winger, fast, hits, a shooter, which was clear and is now true. The two draft picks will most likely produce a projectable F/T player.
Dobson is pretty talented but has proven to be a bit soft….at his very best a Jay Bouwmeister like top paring guy.
So far Dobson, has looked a lot like a right handed bigger version of a Markov kind of player so far which is pretty impressive. Statistically the best player of the habs on almost every games. I was seeing Heinemen as a future 2nd line winger last year, his production dropped mostly from his injury otherwise he would have had way more points. Big guy, fast, physical and with a good shot he has the full package.
When we look back on this deal 5 years from now, we’ll be calling it The Emil Hieneman trade™️
I’m so happy as a habs fan that it worked out this way. Dobson has been so good with Montreal. The stats don’t show how well he has played so far, and you can only imagine he will get better as he settles in. I’m happy for Heineman, glad he’s doing good, I think Montreal would have had a hard time getting him into that top 6, so it’s good he’s getting good chances with the Isles. Also doesn’t help that Montreal has Hage and Zharovsky coming up eventually which in my opinion could really shake up that top 6/9.
Didn't this trade just happen?
2 1st round picks and heiny for dobson is a steal…
i didn't want to trade heineman. 😢 i knew he was a player. wish it was beck or roy instead
It was an overpay, but you’re always overpaying for a proven high-end right-shot d-man. Fair? No. Understandable cost? Absolutely. Montreal got what they’ve been lacking for a decade and the Isles got to grab some good prospects for what was inarguably a bottom 3 prospect pool.
Side note: crazy that Subban’s been out of Montreal for a decade at this point!
The canadiens are looking pretty deadly 😂😂😂
i really don't see how the habs can lose this trade, dobson has been elite for us. at best it's a win-win frl, depending on how eklund and aircheson turn out. i think it'll end up being a win-win personally.
young elite RHD are really hard to get, i don't see how this is an overpay even if heineman/eklund become 2nd liners and aircheson becomes a #4 D
at the end of the day both fanbases can troll each other all they want, but this was an amazing hockey trade.
dobson is probably the best non-prospect trade acquisition made by the habs that i've ever seen in my time as a fan. no joke he's been EASILY a top 3 hab this season
MON paying top 5 money for a top 30D makes no sense. Especially when he’s not even the best D on the team and you have a lot of young players who will need to be paid soon. Isles raked this one. Heineman is a beast alone. The two picks are gravy.
I think the best thing about this is the majority of both fanbases wouldn’t take it back. Habs are happy and Isles are happy. You guys remember hockey trades?
Ok, what kind of name is Xhekaj?? how do you pronounce that? heck-ka-ja?.. I have never seen a last name like that in my 45 years on Earth. I'd love to know it's origins.
This will sting in the way Lekhonen did. This feels like a better and more even trade for the habs. We needed a 1st pair RD more than a middle 6 winger and 2 1sts
Isles fan here who has watched Dobson up close for years. He has a wicked sneaky shot from the blue line which will find it's way to the back of the net. Last season was a bit shaky, but 2 years ago he had a 70 point season. Last season he was inconsistent on defense, and didn't protect the goal as much as the team needed. I think this is a great move for Noah, and this team might be just the right fit for him to hit his stride again. Always rooting for Noah.
I do think the Isles may have gotten a better deal, Heineman has 5 goals already and we got 2 stud prospects. Not to mention the team has saved $7M in cap space.
Darche lucked out because the plan A was to trade those picks to get hagens, when that fell through it ended up being a happy accident because no mock draft had eklund or aitchenson being available at 16 or 17
Can you do a 2027 top 15 nhl draft ranking
Yeah it's good for islanders to have depth around Shaffer and their other players
This is stupid. Way to early to judge this.
It's not a win win
Sheafer doesn't have anything to do with it
The islanders are lucky with him
They still in the middle
A team not good enough to be great
Not bad enough to get a bottom pick
If Kash maxxed out, he will be Top pair D without doubt except for that Kid #48 their both left sticks
What if everyone won by getting the piece they needed? It can happen, as you say, I think it did. Slow your face down a little though. 🙂
Noah Dobson absolutely sucks.
