In 2025, McLaren once again find themselves at the sharp end of the grid. As Britain’s most successful Formula 1 team, and the second most successful Formula 1 team of all time, they have a noble history with its own ups and downs. From their humble beginnings being founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963, to being turned into a tour de force under Ron Dennis, they’ve produced some of Formula 1’s greatest and most distinctive cars, being able to hire some of the best engineers in the business, and forming longstanding technical partnerships with a variety of engine manufacturers. Today, as with Ferrari, we’re going to go through each of them, one by one.

    The best and most exciting F1 team ever. Amazing heights and abysmal lows, the ultimate garagista team, now a massive, successful Company. Legendary drivers and even more legendary rivalries. Never won a boring championship. When I started to support them i was 9, during the Hakkinen years, and, being the contrarian that I am, I wanted to be different, I couldn't be just like the others in Italy and support Ferrari. Growing up and getting to know history Better, I realize I couldn't have chose Better, despite all the disappointment of seasons like 2003, 2005, 2007, 10 and 12, not toe mention the 2013-2018 period. Now, let's get our act together again and win this driver's title!

    I wouldn't say the M23 is the most successful McLaren car. Certainly the most prolific, with 80 GPs. But only 16 wins. I would consider the most successful car the one with the highest winning percentage, over a significant span of time (1 season minimum). In that case, the MP4/4 with 15 wins in 16 races.

    We can't compare anyway. The M23 was ran in a time where cars spanned multiple seasons and being competitive for 5 years is no mean feat. F1 was completely different in the MP4/4 era. Cars couldn't be run during too many multiple seasons (either because of regulation changes or comparative advances). But with only 16 races and 15 wins there is only one car that can compare, the RB19.

    An excellent video
    It would have been good if you had have included who designed each car
    Gordon Coppuck (from my knowledge) designed all of the McLarens after Herd and before Barnard
    This also includes the very successful Indy 500 cars, which won Indy 3 times in the 1970s plus the USAC championship
    Pretty impressive when you consider that they won the F1 title twice as well during this period

    You state that flexible skirts were brought back/extended in 1982 but in fact they had been banned
    I also think that the cars had to have flat bottoms as well
