He took a team friendly deal for sure, but doesn't beat Crosby at 8.7M his whole career. Johnson is such a errand boy for the NHLPA, he makes me sick. McDavid is still making a lot of money, should be well set for life, he also did a favour for himself. He knows that without cups he won't be considered amongst the greats.

Taking the discount is insecurity, he's saying, 'this team isn't good enough' so they have another 4 million dollars in cap room, that doesn't solve their issues.
I'd be curious to compare the distinction in terms of percentage whether this is the best deal in NHL history.
