  1. watch other teams start fighting back against florida as well maybe not this crazy but i think teams should for 3 years florida has gotten away with goon hockey

  2. The problem is the panthers, and they will get more of this from many more teams this season, they absolutely deserve it, and I will be watching every time with popcorn and a smile. 🙂

  3. Hockey is doomed if the panthers continue to get away with everything that they have been through the last few years

  4. I think it'll take Bettman retiring to really see something change with DOPS. Even if punishments weren't what everyone wants, consistency would be nice.

  5. Just another Florida man story… Fine the cities a million dollars and ban the players from the season. Eff it! Go all out.

  6. Shockingly bad take. I really don't know what you expected of Tampa if not exactly this. The league has openly signaled that they have no intention to objectively enforce player safety, so what else are they meant to do besides take matters into their own hands?

And to say nothing at all of the glaring conflict of interest presented by familial relation between the Panthers' AGM and a league exec with a documented history of putting his thumb on the scale to help his son's team(s)?

Really disappointing stuff, and looking around the comment section, it seems I am not alone on this one.

  7. It all starts with not knowing how to executive proper body checks…players coming into the league having played limited body contact hockey. In youth hockey, Jr hockey, body checking has been removed since the 1990's.. this is the result.. No better example than Matt Rempe.. Bad hits have responses… surprising how stick work, hacking is allowed by players who do not answer the bell, whether in youth hockey or street hockey…People who have not played or can play men's body contact hockey are the ones who have been making the rules or commenting on rule changes…this is the result. Can't compete, don't change the rule, turn the channel.

  8. I commend you for being optimistic about what DoPS has to do. Even after all these years as a hockey fan.

This game rocks. This league sucks.

  9. What do you mean Florida does not play like that… when they were in the playoffs elbowing and taking out players on the ice away from the play. And their fans all like the players hurting the other team. That is not okay.

  10. I love how Steve dangle put it. Just build your team with a bunch of goons one top line that can score 80 points a year and just break the bones of the other player. This is what the NHL wants to get back to.

  11. I hate the Panthers. I despise them. I despise that the league has turned a blind eye to their dangerous antics, literally intended to injure Hagel last season and this preseason.

Something needs to be done, last night was finally a response from the Bolts that they aren’t gonna put up with it anymore. Other teams should follow suit.

I obviously don’t want to call for any Panther player’s head, but countless times they intent to injure (Stolarz, Hagel, Nugent-Hopkins, Hyman) and they need to be put in check. This cannot continue, otherwise someone is going to get seriously hurt or worse.

  12. Good for ottawa and montreal! They act like adults when they didnt do like panthers and tampa! And your are right about tampa, they didnt come to play hockey on that second game.

  13. Tampa is ridiculous. They should have just chicken winged bobrovsky. Bennett on marchand 2 years ago and bennet on stolarz last year. Dummies. Chicken wing elbows to the head are completely legal. And effective. Precedents have been set. Fighting people is dumb. You may get suspended and its not as effective!

  14. Department of player safety should hire some enforcers that would visit teams with reminder to behave. Get Chara and other recently retired big guys 🙂

  15. rare I don’t agree with you! BOTH teams should have been penalized for last night to send a message. Last night happened because of a long time coming. Tampa’s players deserved to get reprimanded absolutely but Florida never does, it’s exhausting. they tow the line well with their dirty play to get away with it most times but no matter how blatant they are they always get away with it. I feel like im being gaslit.

  16. Officiating in the NHL, including the DOPS, is a joke. The NHL is more interesting in "supporting" their officials instead of improving their standard. The NHL will never make the move that Shannon suggests.

  17. It's specifically the calling players up part that makes this absolutely insane. In Fight Night at the Joe, those were the stars out there throwing punches. The Wings were after Lemieux, specifically, though they certainly didn't mind hitting the rest of the team. The fights didn't start during the games he was out. THE SCORE WAS STILL 5-6! McCarty was seen as an enforcer but he also scored the game winner for that game and the cup. 144 penalty minutes, but there was still 11 goals in that hockey game. Hard won goals too, even with the fight, Vernon and Roy were on it that night.

Maybe it was more like some of the subsequent brawls between these teams (looking at you Game 4) – but it was always the Wings and Avs stars throwing the punches, and the fights happened basically organically during the course of the game. And both teams preferred to win both the brawl AND the game.

Calling up players to do eye for an eye, not going after the player who hurt your teammate- because those callups aren't necessarily buddies with the player they were avenging- but another player entirely? That's not enforcement, that's not even revenge- that's season assassination.

After Game 4 of the Western Conference finals, the league fined Crawford $10,000 for the screaming rant at Bowman. IMO, losing your temper during the game is a lot more minor than calling up players to set them on the other team. That's the kind of penalty that should have been assessed. Cooper called the players up, Cooper should have been the one fined.

Also, I want to point out, this isn't just affecting the NHL. How does the AHL feel about their players being used as hitmen?

  18. What would be hilarious is if NHL made guys called up to do goon things are now forced to take a roster spot to serve out suspensions, and someone else has to go down to the affiliate for the duration.

  19. Panthers had AHLers called up too? Roster makeup was not unusual for a preseason game, especially after how the last 2 went against the Panthers. Both teams only had a couple of their regular top-6 forwards in the lineup.

Why risk them so close before the season, immediately after 1 bloodbath?

  20. FL injured their way to their recent Stanley Cup. Tampa responds in a meaningless Preseason game and everyone is clutching their pearls. SMH

But, the point made about the DOPS is an absolutely valid one. Until they can get it together … this is going to keep happening.

  21. I don’t think this looks bad for Tampa at all. Finally a team decides to stand up to the BS that the Panthers pull with zero consequences

  22. What about the Verhaeghe hit from behind? Why does he not have a hearing? Mosers hit was dirty but it absolutely NEEDED to happen

  23. Sorry Shannon, you're off the mark here.

DPoS and the Panthers share the bulk of the blame here for what's becoming an incredibly lobsided affair, not just between FLA and the TBL, but FLA and the rest of the league.

Whether it was intentional or not, the culture that has been cultivated in Sunrise is resulting in a ton of non-hockey plays that frankly, haven't been punished as harshly as they should've. Why would Tampa dress their full NHL lineup in preseason against a team that's clearly out to eliminate players not just from the play on the ice (normal, hockey contact) but from multiple games and possibly shortening their careers as a result. The past 3 seasons have been an absolute joke.

Tampa should do the same thing in the regular season, frankly. Turn the game into all non-hockey plays for 2+ hours, and get handed lobsided suspensions and fines. The late hits, hits to the head, knee-on-knees, and other non-hockey plays from Florida are piling up in embarrassing numbers.

  24. Everyone talks 💩 about the Panthers being dirty. They don’t start 💩 they just finish it and pansy ass fans can’t take it. If anyone should have a hearing John Cooper should inciting violence in a preseason game. Bringing up ahl goons strictly to injure Panthers players is deplorable.

  25. Panthers have been head hunting for 2 years, but now "This isn't hockey". Panthers went as far as targeting goalies, but now "This isn't hockey".

I would have left the Panthers off of power rankings all last year because you can't you rank a team that isn't even playing the sport. They had their own set of rules, and Tb did the right thing and said enough is enough.

Shame they couldn't send the message deeper into the Panthers line. But this is also coming from a channel of a Boston fan that largely has his blinders on when it comes to Marchand. If the Panthers coaches don't do something and the players carry on doing what they did last year i hope more teams step up and clean up the league.

I like this channel alot but this is such a soft take when you take into account the Panthers won 2 STANLEY CUPS while head hunting. Didnt bother condeming it then so cannot take this seriously now. I do not care that they called up goons to do the job. In fact, that's an amazing strategy given the severity of how dirty the Panthers have been.

  26. Tampa just claimed Curtis Douglas. I was hoping the Laffs would get him back. This is the next monster of the league and challenger for the Matt Rempe matchup. This was for Florida though. This guy is a menace!

  27. I'm gonna have to disagree respectfully. I miss this stuff man. The greatest hockey game I've ever watched was the March 5th, 2004 game between the Flyers and Sens. I taped the replay Comcast SportsNet did of that game and I still keep a VHS to go back and watch it to this day

  28. NHL should make a rule that if a player is suspended during preseason – the suspended player must be on the NHL roster until the end of their suspension

  29. In this social environment, bench-clearing brawls would absolutely catapult the NHL to legendary levels. It’s unfortunate, but there it is.
    It’s not sustainable, of course.

  30. Tampa sent a message, hate it but they don’t care. They feel that their players aren’t being protected by the league so they went out and sent a message.

  31. But you always say that broadcasters want more rivalries. And if it would be a topic of discussion would NHL want more of that?
