The Penguins’ youth movement is here as two young players made the initial 23-man roster! Patrick and Hunter begin the show with their surprise that both Benjamin Kindel and Harrison Brunicke have made the team out of training camp ahead of the season opener in New York. They then dive into expectations for both players, how they can stick in the NHL, and what they need to do to continue impressing. (0:00) Then, among some of the more surprising moves of the weekend, defenseman Ryan Graves was waived and sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. They get into what a disaster Graves has been for the team, as well as some of the young players who didn’t make the team. Also, the re-assignment of defenseman Owen Pickering could spell trouble. (13:58) Finally, real hockey comes our way this week. They get you set for the Penguins’ first three games of the season! (27:19)

For once I'm optimistic for the prospect farm, it's a weird feeling.
(also my bold prediction: Rangers stink and win the draft lottery for us sending Gavin McKenna to Pittsburgh)
Congrats Hunter! Wishing the newlyweds long-term health and happiness 😃
Happy to see Kindel staying after a solid camp. Good luck to him.
Not sure if Brunicke is ready defensively, but he certainly is offensively.
Not pleased with Broz and Hayes getting sent down, only to play Acciari and Brazeau. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Acciari's not even good defensively or on the PK. Provides nothing. Hopefully when Rust gets back that squeezes him out.
Pickering is better than Jones. Not thrilled with that decision either.
But I mean, this is just for game 1. I'm sure there'll be call-ups later.
While I understand some of the gripes about Brazzeau I see keeping him in the line up because facing Rempe and co I get it can't let him run around taking runs uncontested
I like the way the team is shaping up. I just really dont think tomasino and novak together on the 3rd line is smart. They are very soft and dont do much when not scoring. Maybe if they put novak with malkin and mantha, we can get something going. This is a concern for me. Also liizzotte and dewar seem a little redundant to me.
Congratulations Hunter🎉
Congratulations Hunter!!
congratulation's
Dubas has gone from reaching to looking pretty smart with the Kindel pick. Hopefully, that's still true 5 years from now.
Good morning guys, great show!! Ok, first let me say a huge congratulations to Hunter and your future wife 🎉 Marriage is wonderful Hunter, I loved being married. My first wasn't a good healthy relationship, but when I learned what a marriage truly is, found her, Shirley, and we married it completed me. She also gave me a daughter at that time. So, I married into a family. May I suggest reading, whether you're a man of faith or not, 1 Corinthians 13 on Love with eachother. It sets the bar of what love is brother. And lastly, Friday also happened to be my 4 year sober date. So, Oct 3rd is a great celebratory date we share. Blessings, Victor from Canada 🇨🇦 🙏
I personally feel the youth movement is a farce if rust and Hayes weren’t injured kindel wouldn’t be here, and they landed on keeping guys like jones, accari, Brazzo, over younger players who have way more upside
And congrats Hunter.
Congrats and I hope your family grows each year.
I absolutely cannot believe that Kindel and Brunicke made the roster. I’m confused that Broz and Pickering didn’t beat out someone for a spot, but I think they’ve got to be the first call ups in case of injury… I’m surprised and happy that Dubas kept his word. I’m still a bit disappointed that they didn’t go full bore and keep Broz and Pickering as well.
Sure looking like Kindel might be a Jordan Staal story after all hey…..😂
FWIW Hunter, they cannot put any more veteran contracts down in the AHL. It's unfortunate for all the guys who earned roster spots.
1) Congrats Hunter … having just celebrated my 30th anniversary, I wish you the the same life time of happiness
2) Barring injuries to some combination of Mantha/Koivunen/Rakell (which would be the Penguin way 😂), I gotta believe Kendel will go back to junior when Rust returns. And I think that will be what is best for him … he is still only 18 and 170 lbs, and that's tough to expect him to hold up for an entire NHL season.
3) I really don't get the Caleb Jones thing … especially over Pickering. But at least they made a statement with Graves … we'll see how that plays out.
4) With Jones apparently married to Letang and Witherspoon to Karlsson … I'm curious to see what Muse does with Brunicke, Dumba, Clifton and Shea. Barring injury, two of them will need to be healthy scratches.
5) It's a long season, so a lot is going to change … including when Rust, Kevin Hayes and McGroarty return. And of course, other players will get injured along the way too.
Congrats, Hunter!
Personally, I think that Dubas is going to use October to try and showcase veterans that he could move to make space for Broz, Hayes, and Pickering.
I don't see Brunicke getting sent anywhere, unless his play is atrocious. More likely, he'll get a healthy scratch/forced day off, when he shows signs of struggling.
If Kindel plays well, I don't see him going anywhere, especially if his play is defensively responsible. Problem is, I don't see being on a line with Novak and Tomasino as a good thing for him because they both shy away from the corners and don't really seem to fit the style of play that Muse wants. Kindel, with Broz and Hayes, would be a hard line to play against….the "bunch of bastards" that Pat likes to say.
I wonder how much Sully had to do with Dubas' first year signings, draft picks, etc.
I think that the cap space was saved to be able to retain salary on both Graves and Jarry , if he continues to struggle.
I think that there are a few veterans that made the roster because Dubas knew that they'd be claimed off of waivers, and lost for no gain. Broz, Hayes, and Pickering are waivers exempt, so they could be sent down without worry. Look for there to be a few moves by the end of October, Thanksgiving at the latest. I'm talking Acciari, maybe Caleb Jones (especially if he continues to struggle paired with Letang), possibly even Novak and Tomasino, just because of how they shy away from play in the corners and contact.
I'd like to see Dumba playing on the left side for Letang. That slap shot off the one timer….really need to have someone like Letang just feeding him pucks.
If Horcoff continues like he has started, with his net front play, do you foresee him signing in Pittsburgh immediately after Michigan's season ends?
Were you as shocked as I was to see Emil Pienemi sent down to Wheeling? The hype for him, coming out of the WJCs was that he was possibly making the NHL roster, then was among some of the first cuts, and then the first cuts by WBS.
Based on preseason, and how Rangers fans are upset about Sully cutting a lot of their best young players, I don't expect the Rangers to be too good. The Pens will finish ahead of them…and the Islanders.
Congrats Hunter… I don't understand the hate on Graves. He had a GREAT preseason. He's the reason Kevin Hayes is not on the roster. I don't think Graves has ever been more useful to the Penguins.
First of all, congrats on the engagement. Secondly, I think we are reading too much into Pickering going down. I think it makes all the sense in the world and is the same as Broz and Hayes going down. You have to showcase your the vets like Dumba and Clifton. They’ve said all along they want to take their time and make sure they are ready before they get a spot. You don’t want to put Pickering into a top 4 spot right away if you don’t have to. Which is why Jones “beat” him out. They have nothing really invested in Jones so if he craps the bed and loses confidence, oh well, you can send him down and bring the next guy up. It also makes no sense to have him up riding the bench because he can go down to the AHL team, whereas, Brunicke doesn’t have that option. There are multiple avenues Pickering ends up on the big squad sooner or later this year. If Brunicke plays poorly this first 9 games, they may just send him back which would mean Dumba can go back to RD and Pickering can come up and play 3rd pair. Or the pens as a whole stink but they end up trading Dumba to a contender. Or the injury bug hits. EK and Letang aren’t exactly spring chickens.
Congratulations Hunter!
Congrats Hunter🎉 loved the NHL contract as a Marriage contract bit!
Congrats Hunter!
Broz and Avery Hayes should both be on the NHL squad. They more than deserved it after that training camp.
Congratulations Hunter! And also I know hockey starts tomorrow because tomorrow is fly day for 14 days off at home can’t wait for penguins hockey!
Congrats hunter. Congrats to kindel and brunicke. I think kindel will go back to juniors once rust is healthy unless he plays like jordan staal did his rookie season. Dont like the linemates they have kindel with. Neither novak or tomasino forecheck much. Too much finesse on that line. The coaching staff likes caleb jones for some reason. He didnt look any better then pickering imo. Actually i wasnt impressed with jones at all. Win or lose just glad hockey is back and ready for the ride
Congrats Hunter!!!!!!!!
