On this episode of The Sheet, host Jeff Marek is joined by Michael Russo and Greg Wyshynski for an in-depth breakdown of the ongoing Kirill Kaprizov contract saga. From record-setting offers reportedly left on the table to questions about whether Kaprizov truly wants to remain in Minnesota, the crew dives into every angle of this high-stakes negotiation.
They discuss Bill Guerin’s options, the pressure on owner Craig Leipold, and whether Kaprizov’s camp may be eyeing other NHL markets. With echoes of past Wild star exits like Marian Gaborik, this conversation highlights the uncertainty surrounding one of the league’s most electrifying players. Is Kaprizov the ultimate domino that could reset the NHL contract market, or will Minnesota find a way to lock him in long-term?
If you’re a Minnesota Wild fan—or just fascinated by NHL contract drama—you won’t want to miss this candid discussion on what’s next for Kaprizov and the Wild.

Call it a hunch: even though there has been a lot of drama swirling around this one (much of it kicked up by Russo), I still think he extends before the start of the season.
They should trade him for a fifth round pick.
How come there isn't an unsubscribe button??
I can actually hear Mitch Hedberg saying that joke. RIP awesome buddy.
Imagine being worth millions already, and not realizing that you could take 6-7 mil, still be rich AF, and tell a team to acquire two top 6 linemates to play with you with the remaining cash and make a real run for the cup. And yet even a player that we think might think this way, like McDavid, will likely still want 14 mil + and eat up the capspace. They deserve every cup they don't win at that point.
If he can't stay healthy he isn't worth a dime.
If the $16MM a year offered was true and turned down then it’s obvious he does not want to be there and should he traded immediately. If not the Wild has zero integrity. I would not play him and make it public he is open for trade and let the bidding start and get rid of him.
To me, Kirill being characterized as, "just wanting to win" is somewhat hard to believe. If he doesn't understand that dominating a team's salary cap doesn't allow the team to surround him with other quality players, says exactly the opposite. I'm hoping this is just his agent's hard nose strategy and Kirill will eventually take over and re-engage in negotiations. At the same time, the league did the Wild ZERO favors with the new contract rules staggered rollout AND them announcing the large salary cap increases over the next couple of years……which they've never done before. There are a lot of spinning plates……and that adds to a more complicated negotiation. But the Wild are used to being screwed over by the league……so, what's new?
Trade his greedy ass.
Kirill was clear that it’s not the money or the time. He wants to win. How do you negotiate THAT?!
The twin cities have such a weird dynamic with all the far left politics. That reason alone probably makes some players uncomfortable with signing there long term.
I think he wants to leave Minnesota and is willing to stay if they will pay him an unreasonable amount of money which by the way, I hope they don’t because he is not worth what he is asking.
I really don’t think you make this ask unless you’re willing to walk. In fact, I’m willing to bet on this that he signs somewhere else around the value of around 12 million or so.
At this point, it's time to show Kirill 👉 🚪. Get the best deal you possibly can, but realize Billy Guerin as he has shown will F-it up. Guerin is Mike Bossy's Bastard Brother and isn't helping the State of Hockey!
The Wild GM is not the brightest bulb
Here's my hunch: kirill doesnt want to be here and is upset at Guerin and ownership. He has all the leverage. Maybe when the Wild ask him to waive his no trade clause Kirill says no way. Refuses to allow any trade to be made then stiff the team and go for free agency. It could happen.
he is not worth $16 million being 1 and done in the playoffs so trade him
You distracting from McDavid like Trump distracting from Epstein.
Do yourself a favor, trade the small little punk. To small and worn down by game 82.
What a greedy pig he is. Karma will bite him in the … Typical Russian.
There is a greater chance Kirill holds out for the Panthers than to sign with the Wild. They have $23 mill open next year with their core intact. What isn't being talked about is Gustavsson having a good year he will sign elsewhere. Looking at the Panthers roster next year. We may be losing both to the Panthers. We are getting to a sign and trade category with both players. The Wild are dangerously close to a forced mini rebuild.
He's gone. Get a list of teams he'll accept a trade to and send him. It's the Wild. It's not like they're winning the cup anytime soon with or without him.
You are all derps
He signed with the wild!
