Last in the Atlantic?!?

🚨 JFresh has the Montreal Canadiens finishing LAST in the Atlantic Division with just 82 points this season… but are the Habs really that easy to predict? Last year, his model underrated Montreal by 18 points, and with players like Juraj Slafkovsky, Kirby Dach, Lane Hutson, and Ivan Demidov all poised for big years, the Canadiens could be one of the NHL’s biggest surprises in 2025–26.

Do you think the Habs will finish last, or are they a playoff dark horse? Let me know your thoughts ⬇️

There’s no way the Habs finish last… right? 👀
If it did happen, it would mean a lot of players not meeting expectations, and probably our defense 🛡 and goaltending 🥅 completely falling apart.

What do you think, Habs fans? Will Montreal really be at the bottom, or are we in for a surprise this season? Let me know below ⬇ (or just drop a “hi” 👋 if you’re passing through).

Hope you’re all doing well — take care everyone! 🙏

  2. he defended it saying that they played more like an 84 point team in goal differential, with worse xGoals. He’s also not counting rookies.

Even then, add Dobson, Bolduc, both with amazing analytics. You’d expect progress from a 21yo 1OA, from the reigning Calder winner. You wouldn’t expect regression from Suzuki or Caufield. How does this explain 82 points?

  3. J fresh is the modern Ek or Eklund who haunted Hockey Futures and many other web boards with silly rumours. I'd rate this E-1 to use his old lingo.

  4. I refuse to believe that is anything but ragebait. Nobody with more than 2 braincells would put Habs last after the season they just had. In what world are we a worse team today after this offseason than we were last year? Also, Leafs at 100pts without Marner? Sabres making playoffs? Boston ahead of us despite being in obvious tank mode? It's beyond retarded.

  5. I don't see how the Habs didn't at least improve their defence and goaltending which were two glaring problems last year. The goaltending was good but they relied on it too much, with better defence I think Monty has a better year. I also don't think Detroit, Buffalo, or Boston did anything to think they will surpass the Habs this season compared to last season. Toronto will have big shoes to fill on the top line wing and right now I don't see anyone on that roster who can fill it anywhere near what Marner gave them so they will be in tough against Tampa and Ottawa. If anything I think Ottawa will be ahead of Tampa and Toronto this season with the Habs chasing them til the end.

  6. Well that’s how we like it

    Underrated and unappreciated

This way it’s more of a shock to the rest of NHL

The fact he has Vancouver where they are, Winnipeg 4th in their own division and Boston 😂😂😂

    It is pretty funny…

  7. Whisky my lovely, do not fret about the slow subscriber count. Once the season starts, we will be watching each analysis you give of the games and you'll grow :3

  8. I’ll tell you what, if he’s right I will strip naked and go streaking in front of the police station here and stream live doing it. Yes I ACTUALLY will, that’s how confident I know he’s wrong.

  9. I'm tired of the doomsayers.

Who is this Stale fresh guy. Does he work in the NHL? Did he play hockey or is he one of those analytical goofs?

  10. It's laughable enough that he puts Habs last but then he goes and puts BUFFALO at 93 points and into the playoffs when they lost JJ Peterka…what???

  11. Their start is key. 50% through November should be good enough to build some streaks through February. They've shown that they can beat any team. Marty can get them up for every game. 3rd in the Atlantic is not out of the question.

  12. Well YouTube apparently doesn’t like my post and has been removed twice now.
Guess I’ll keep it at this. Montreal makes their conference finals in2026 period.

  13. IMO, the only way the Habs decline that much is if they are massacred by injuries again like 2 & 3 years ago. IF they miss the playoffs, it will be by a small margin (I.e. 2 or 3 pts), but I expect them to finish around 95-100pts, with a decent chance to grab #2 or #3 in the division. I expect the Leafs to slip some – contingent on the health of Matthews – and not out of the question the Habs finish above them… Good chance of a rematch in the 2-3 spots, with either team in either spot. Just my opinion. 🙂

  14. So in other words, JFresh is only good at copy-pasting results from last season and can't predict a team's (d)evolution.

Just a suggestion, you can fairly accurately measure his ability by simply comparing his picks for 2024-25 and the actual 2024-25 standings with the 2023-24 standings. That way you answer the question: "is he better than just looking at the previous year's standings?"

  15. Nobody's saying that the Habs will win the cup this season, BUT to say they will finish 9 points less and 3 more spots down in their division this season is absolutely insane.

  16. If JFresh is brilliant in any way he just predicted an injury riddled season for the Habs. This is the only way they finish as he said.

  17. The Habs might be the hardest team to process through such a projection model : How do you plug in a guy like Sammy Blais having such an impressive resurgence in the AHL, rather late into his career, and coming to his dream team on that high with absolutely nothing to lose ? How do you compute a Joe Veleno finally getting to a team with a style of very fast plays at 5 on 5 that suits him much better, on top of being his childhood dream ? How do you compute properly a second year for a Bolduc who had a better second half than the first and gets traded so soon into his young career, once again to a team he did not dare wish for ? How do you compute Laine & Demidov having the best summer of training they've ever had ? How do you properly compute Dach who seems to already be skating better & faster in Brossard now that he was last year ? Collectively how do you properly compute the massive improvement this team is setting up to have on PP (they might very well end up having one of, if not THE, best PP2 in the league) ? How do you compute for Adam Nicholas and his training magic all the players revere (even Kris Letang apparently ahah) ? How do you properly take into account the 3 seasons in just 1 of accelerated development Kapanen's just had ? How do you compute David Reinbacher who was absolutely amazing in those AHL playoffs with the little reps he's had in the season ? Man this is getting way too long, sorry. One day I'll manage to write a short & sweet comment, I promise, working on it !
Anyway, great topic, it's a blast following you along Whiskey, hope the season will be just as fun as this summer, even after the hopefully few losses here and there.

  18. It could be feast or famine. Equally, it could just be a damp squib of a season where we just miss the playoffs. That's the "joy" of a young team in a rebuild.
It means everyone is currently excited and hopeful for exciting games in October. I just hope that if things don't go smoothly that the Montreal fanbase stays calm and puts it down to growing pains.
Honestly, I'm not hopeful. They will decide one single player/coach is at the root of the evil and go on a witch hunt. Mob rule and all that.
Everyone has to remember that whilst we have improved some of our pieces on the hockey chessboard, we've also lost a chunk of back end experience. The rebuild isn't over yet.

It isn't any better in the Premier League if I'm being honest. Two league games and one League Cup game have been played, and the West Ham and Manchester United head coaches must be fearing for their jobs. These days, it's not just the tabloids. Even the BBC website appears already to be predicting changes

Mind you last night, Manchester United lost in the League Cup to Grimsby Town from the 4th tier of English football. As a Leeds United supporter, I found it absolutely hilarious. 😂😂😂❤❤❤😂😂😂

  19. Montreal will finish last if Suzuki is injured for a large chunk of the season, both Montembeault and Dobes fall apart, Hudson regresses, Dobson is underwhelming and Laine stinks. And of course nothing bad happens to the other teams and they show internal progression. It could all happen, not probable but possible.
We need to solve the centre issue to be a serious Cup contender but unless the hockey gods are cruel we have enough to make the playoffs.

  20. If they manage to stay healthy they're making the playoffs again and it won't be a nail biter this time. They're still young they gonna make mistakes but they're going to be dominant this year.

The fire is already started, Bolduc/Demidov/Hobson this is just adding fuel to it. We gonna see a big uptick in goals and goals win games.

  21. I think Detroit and Boston may be bottom of the league terrible this year. Buffalo, I always hope for them, but Montreal is better than Buffalo. I think Montreal takes a small step back next year before becoming hopefully a perennial playoff team.
But finishing out of the playoffs is not a terrible idea/outcome.
    Who is J Fresh?
I was terrible last year trying to predict where teams were going to finish.
Dont think there is any big surge you can project for Dach.
