How an Undersized Forward Humbled The Entire NHL

When you think of NHL Legends like Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Wayne Gretzky, and Mario Lemieux, you picture athletes who dominate the game with their incredible skill, vision, and leadership. Well, join me as we dive into Brad Marchand’s incredible journey, from his early days as a scrappy underdog in the QMJHL to being overlooked in the NHL draft, his rise to Stanley Cup champion with the Boston Bruins, and his transformation into one of the most hated yet effective players in the game. We’ll explore his rivalry-filled career, his knack for scoring clutch goals, and his recent achievement of capturing another Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. 1. another crazy good video. i think bennett is right – the panthers dont win the cup without brad. when other players are worried about making a historical mistake, marchand is thinking about making history

  2. It doesn’t seam that long ago that I took my nephew over to the Ristuccia center in Wilmington Ma where the Bruins were holding their rookie camp and got a look at Marshie and told my nephew “ That guy is gonna be a super start “

  3. I’ve been a die hard Bruins fan for 60 years , I’m seriously considering ending it because they traded him , I said the same thing about Looch but I hung in there ,… this tho is the straw that broke the camels back

  4. This was AWESOME!!! Thank you!!! Marchand will ALWAYS be loved in Boston–regardless of the uniform he may wear!!!

  5. He’s a lot like Sean Avery. Both lower the standards of the league. Dirty players. Low class.

  6. I've been watching Marchand play since I was 8 years old. Watched one of his first games in Providence as a kid and he's been my man ever since he got called up. B's fans miss him a lot but we're happy he's still performing well

  7. Tenacity, skill, strength, and a very low center of gravity. The 🐀 has mastered the use of his smaller size. Tree trunk legs help too. So fucking happy he’s going to retire with my team.

Brad has mastered the mental game within the game. Those kind of players are invaluable come playoffs.

  8. My problem is, why did he spend the vast majority of his career playing like a piece of shit when he was always capable of being a top end goal scorer?

  9. Marchand was not a 4th liner until the playoffs. He was Bergeron's linemate for ~65 games in 2011 and was playing on the 3rd line with Campbell and Wheeler for 8 games before that.
Also he was penalized for punching Sedin, he was given 2 for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct.

  10. Looking back I believe the Cats would not had won the Cup again without this man, Thank you Boston and thank you Brad.

  11. In 2011 the Bruins hired a new skating consultant and I always thought that addition had a positive impact on the skating abilities of Marchand specifically. Of course, nobody even to this day thinks "great skater" when they think of Marchand, but in the early years he was much more noticeably rough around the edges. It's not hard to imagine that as a player who was basically out there fighting for his life every night; he might not have had the luxury or been afforded the opportunity to work on such specific skills as skating.

I remember watching his first few years in the NHL and thinking that as a skater he has a lot of energy but man he's so erratic. Bleeds off a lot of energy. Inefficient. I think during the 2011 season his skating started to improve dramatically, and obviously the coaches noticed the hard work he was putting in and to their credit also gave him the opportunity to spread his wings and show everyone the product of all that hard work. I think 2011 was hands down his most transformational year.

A somewhat related thought; you see a lot of agitators, pests, pot-stirrer type of players kinda fizzle out after a while, especially the smaller ones. Just seems like their productive windows tend to me much shorter than other players' on average. At the end of the day, hockey is a physical game and they take a beating disproportionate to their size. Don't care how tough you are after a while battling guys that have 7 inches and 50 lbs on you takes it's toll. You have to be smart, efficient, and lucky to be in the game as long as Marchand has been and still be relevant.

  12. Brad Marchand at 5'9" played with grit and heart. Yes he was somewhat of a well not well liked player. Yet his stats speak for themselves.

  13. As a life long Bruins fan I have nothing but love and respect for this man. I was so happy for him when he hoisted his second cup but sad it was not with the B's

  14. i cant believe bruin management never build champion teams surrounding Marchand, Bergeron, Krejcie .etc

  15. The licking killed me 😹🥸🤪 damn hilarious… this video was great… Marchand is one of a kind! Beware the Rat King! 👅🐀👑 Let’s Go Panthers!!!

  16. Hate! hate, hate, hate, hate, hate… But I always wished he was on my team. He never failed to mess up my pick's, including this year!
Never knew he was from down home. You got to love him!

  17. He was line mate with an all time class player, and still was a dirty rat. Major talent? Yes. Produce and earned it all? Yes. Could have done it the Bergeron way.

  18. This channel needs more views, top notch. When I didn't watch the NHL much, I for sure thought Marchand was a native Bostonian by how he played. I feel like he was instrumental in the wins for the Panthers. There was a game for the panthers they would have lost if he didn't make the goals he made.

  19. Here is a hint. Understand his entire family is as tough as nails. I haven't met a kid from from Marchand Homes I don't like, yet.

  20. Now all of the videos are coming out about how "elite" of a hockey player he is now that he has left the Bruins…If you wanna make good hockey content, get the chip off your shoulder and take away your biases.

  21. How do you leave out game 3 of the Leafs series? u only mention Game 7? the Leafs were up 2 games. geeeeeze

  22. 19:05 i feel like he's looking around and finding himself alone because he doesnt really know these guys. So he goes and finds his family.
