The Unexpected REVENGE & Other Stories of A WW1 Shipwreck

In one of the most incredible incidents of World War One, a sinking Steamship unexpectedly smashed into the submarine that had just torpedoed it – resulting in the demise of the skipper! This amazing event is just one of many unbelievable stories that surround the SS East Point and it’s nemesis the German u-boat SM U-48.

In this video whilst diving the wreck of the SS East Point in 67 metres, I provide full details of what happened during this bizarre event and what happened afterwars. I also cover the impressive career of the East Point’s skipper, Harold Young, including his award of the Distinguised Service Cross for his role in the Gallipoli campaign.

  1. Awesome stories! Thank you for those…. Glad this dive was easier on you than the last one when you dove this wreck and the rebreather incident… although, that was definitely was a learning opportunity for all of us that are still trying to learn and understand rebreathers.

  2. What's the honking when you giant stride into the water?
    RICK!!!
    The historical bits are awesome!
I like how you put the overlay in real time, including as you pan to other pics.
    SO lucky with your GoPro!!
4:55 Your crockery was used to identify the wreck, 40 years ago?! (Were you 3 years old then?!)
That's funny how they trashed the Skipper 😂
That's funny about the drug running boat😅
You're raising the bar by reading his journal (letter) about his experience!!!
With the surge in this location, how long do you estimate the wreck will be recognized?
So, did you put the spoons in your dry suit or do you use your gift bag?
Do you have a video explaining the cost breakdown, setup, execution, teardown of a deep wreck dive trip?
Does everyone change their setpoint up to 1.5?
Were you the ONLY one in trouble?
    EXCELLENT video!
I miss seeing where the wreck is in relationship to where you cast off from.

  3. Love these videos of yours. Really quality stuff, mate!
Wish I would have/could have done stuff like this when
I was younger & healthy. But, I was always working,
paying bills, married & tied down with too regimented
    an existence.
    Did manage to
    score an open
    water cert., at
    least.

  4. What a great video, the footage and profile are interesting and the interlinking stories each an incredible tale in their own right. It can be hard to talk on point for 50 minutes but you make it sound easy, seamlessly switching between the dive, vessels and the people involved, a treat indeed. I have to mention the time stamps and information you're now putting in the info block are a major step up in quality, as is the almost natural request for likes and subcriptions and even a plug for the next video. You're putting out really good quality viewing Rick, thank you 👍
