If Yzerman doesn't make any impact trades or signings this summer, it will be up to the Toddfather to provide the discipline and structure that the Wings will need to overcome their real talent deficits.

My concern is with the defense this season. If ASP doesn’t make it up in the main roster for some games, I fear that the team will not make the Playoffs. I do wonder though if Yzerman will lose his position at the end of the season. Frankly, I personally hope not since he’s done a fine job so far. The playoff window looks to be open in 2028 so hopefully things go up from here.
it can help a lot if he figures some stuff out.
1. Never ever ever play Compher in the top 6, or Compher and Kane together.
2. Never ever ever play Compher on the penalty kill or when the other team has their net empty. I have looked at the numbers for this stuff. Never ever ever. They want Compher to do more and have a bigger role to 'earn his contract', but all it does is hurt the team very badly and make the contract worse. Bottom 6, never w Kane, never on PK, never w opponent net empty.
3. Never ever ever play Kane in the bottom 6. He supercharges talent and is a huge plus the last 2 years when centered by Larkin or Kasper (winning 30-14). When centered by Copp he is a bit above breakeven. When centered by the likes of Compher and Veleno he is a gigantic minus. He can be a great asset or a liability 5v5, it's up to the lineups.
4. Do not sacrifice consistently big scoreboard winning Cat/Kane lines for non-winning or marginally winning Raymond lines.
5. Keep the power play humming but get Gus a bit more time on the unit. If the units ever split, split Raymond and Mo onto a unit w Kasper, keep Cat Kane Larkin on a unit w Gus. but ideally don't split them, keep it like last year until/unless it fails.
6. Minimize Holl and Chiarot as much as humanly possible. Do not use them on the PK unless absolutely necessary.
7. Make every effort to keep Kasper at center unless he shows signs of not being able to handle it. The difference between having Larkin – Kasper – Copp as your top 3 centers, vs Larkin – Copp – Compher, is night and day.
8. Ignore the analytics here (which are skewed by Kane's absurd playstyle in the situation), and play Kane prominently in 3v3 overtime, always in one of the first 2 pairs out. As much as possible w DeBrincat, Kasper or Larkin. Never put him out without possession or in the d-zone.
These 8 things would go a long way towards a good year, health permitting.

Under 6 pts in either direction. They are who they are: An under talented team that folds when the pressure is on.
This will be an exciting season. The RWs had only one bad month under Todd. I'm expecting them to be a playoff team. Young players should be pushing their way into the team and I believe Yzerman will make a trade to bolster the D.
