Is NJ Devils Defenseman Dougie Hamilton Being Traded Soon?

Dougie Hamilton may soon be traded by the NJ Devils. This is a shock to hear these reports come out because Dougie is a beloved Devil that chose to sign here via free agency and has found success but as of lately been unable to play full calendar years fir the Devils.
The Devils have Luke Hughes to sign to a long term extension and find themselves facing cap questions, but trading out Dougie Hamilton, Ondrej Palat, and Dawson Mercer may hell in their effort to trade for a top 6 winger.

  1. I hate myself as a fan for saying it, but do it. That $9mil AAV is going to become every bit the albatross it was predicted to be when Hamilton signed here. Sucks, but it might have to happen.

  2. I don't think they'll trade Hamilton. I wouldn't be surprised if they DON'T trade Mercer. They'll probably trade Palat.

    I predict that the Devils will trade for Brenden Gallagher. He'll be the top 6 forward.

  3. They need the money to sign Luke Huges. Hamilton has been injury prone for the last 2+ seasons and I don't think he ever fully recovered from his surgeries. Yeah of course he's a great guy, and a real veteran presence, but they need money to sign Luke and I'm tired of waiting. I think the problem with Mercer has been the way he was coached. He's super durable and definately capable of being a 30 goal scorer. I would rather keep Mercer and see him get coached a little better. Palat I wanted moved last year. Another great guy but at 6 million a year, nope…

  4. How about this
    Trade hamilton trade palat and trade mercer.
    Get Quinn hughes to come to nj
    $ 9 plus 4 plus 6 = 19 plus 6 woukd be 25 million below the cap. Than adding Quinn hughes will cost $$$ but it's still below the cap

  5. If Dougie is being traded to Dallas, (who was very disappointed in the free agent D signing) for Robertson , a third team would need to be involved to eat 40% of Hamilton's contract. Dallas is almost $2 mill over the cap
    Robertson = $7.75 mill
    Hamilton = $9 mill
    Adding Hamilton for Robertson would put them about $3 million over the cap.
    If San Jose could take 50% of Dougie and 30-40% of Robertson (for picks from NJ and Dallas) both teams would be cap compliant and the Devils could use the extra to sign Luke long term.

  6. I would prefer to keep Dougie for one more year (just thinking about the team's outlook), but I think they will end up moving him this summer due to salary and too much $$$ tied up in defense with Luke's extension, needing offensive help, and the propsect of Quinn being available in about 700 days.

  7. Thanks for the update…. with the holiday here (amd now gone), ive been away from everything going on! As for doing a Hamilton trade — i would say yes, if the return is right.. and then move/buy out palat so that Luke can be signed! Its all so easy, right! 😂

  8. I’m ready to move on from Hamilton. I don’t want to be negative but I think we could use one less chronically injured guy on lineup and he’s obviously lost a step too..
