Best bet for the Wings at this point unless something comes up that won't cost them Larkin, Kane, DeBrincat, Edvinsson, Seider, Raymond or Kasper is to emphasize a strong start and hold the cap space for the trade deadline and then pray they won't have another spring meltdown.

I still think it’s Robertson. Age fits the window, immediately inserts into the top line, is from Northville, and Steve has connections to Nill. I’m guessing if a deal does get made it’ll be: Robertson for Compher, Danielson + lottery protected 2026 1st.
Robertson then signs a 5 year deal with a $8.5m AAV.

you arent getting Kyle Connor out of Winnepeg this year so he would be 30 before he puts on a red wings uniform. which would be fine but you only have a 3 year window with him for a cup. elite forwards production begin to decline at 30 and significantly beginning at age 32. at 34 hes no longer a top 6 forward. are you going to be able to get the guy to sign a 5 year deal or 6 year deal at a significant discount? you cannot trade Danielson. hes potentially the #1 center on this team in 3 years. Winnepeg if they were beginning a rebuild would take that swap in a heart beat. where do you replace a #1 or #2 center elite center? you have to draft them because they are more valiable than wings. Yzerman knows this so thank God he doesnt make the same mistake because it would destroy the team. Detroit would be willing to give up a future 1st at this point for KFC but they arent giving up any of the guys weve drafted in the 1st round, not giving up Buium, not giving up Wallinder or Anton Johanson and probably would not give up Buchelnikov or Kiiskinaan. so Winnepeg would have to pick from guys like Lombardi or Tuomisto, Dylan James, etc and maybe a bottom roster player or 2nd or 3rd round pick. Yzerman is not going to pay a premium that sets this team back in 3 years for essentially a 3 year rental window on a 30 year old player. He would just wait till KFC hits free agency instead.

Then decide who your guy is Kasper danielsen. Until very recently, when they were both in the minors.Everybody swore danielson was the number one guy and Kasper was the third line guy. The Jets just lost Ehlers for nothing, which means they are already not going to be what they were last year. So they may still be a playoff team, but they aren't going into the playoffs as the 1 in the West. Sending prospects could speed up their rebuild.
I kinda forgot it took us 40 years to get food then were spoiled for years. Being in High school during 97 red wings set up some crazy expectations.
